TOO SMALL TO BE A TARGET? Are you safe from a cyber event? SME's have issues with #businesssecurity. 80% of SMEs consider themselves safe from a cyber event, virus attack, malware or data breach although they have not invested in anything better than AV. You are not immune just because you believe: It will not happen to us We have nothing worth stealing and We are too small to be a target. From cyber event to back to business as normal a breach could cost an SME upward of $200,000. That includes recovery costs, compliance, governance, regulatory fines, reputation loss, revenue, downtime and definitely profits. Could you pay that? "We have cyber insurance," you say. Cyber insurance will only payout if you can show that you have implemented all of the security strategies demanded by the policy. Ticking the boxes for the policy without actually implementing the required security will not get you a payout! Business security is risk management! That means that you have to think about and mitigate the risks before they materialize. What have you done to secure your business? #ExecutivesAndManagement, #infosec #AccountingAndAccountants
Great post Roger. I think many SME's are still "blissfully" unaware of cyberattacks. They think it happens to only the large corporates. Prevention is definitely better than the cure.
Well said, and a timely reminder. I'm amazed how by the complacency of so many businesses (of all different sizes) re this issue - it's such a key area of vulnerability and exposure.
With the huge number of employees working from home I'd say the risk is even higher? How are organisations dealing with this Roger Smith ?
Wow! That is frightening. I didn't know about these facts. If your business uses a lot of technology is good to check this out be safe. Cheers.
Numbers! The only way to explain the value to the business. It is a great reminder that cyber insurance policy is a waste of money unless you follow the guides and implement that security.
As a small business I still consider risk management a necessity. Actually as an individual I still consider cyber security an essential part of my every day.
This is a great reminder Roger Smith as a cyber event can happent o anyone or any business- regardless. The people doing this don't care- it must be just a niumbers game for them.
Scary figures, Roger! Prevention is better than cure, we shall listen to your advice.
We have no choice but from day one to ensure our security processes, protocols and policies are as tight as they can be. I wish I could say they are impenetrable, but the reality is, that nothing is fully impenetrable these days. Luckily we have internal capability in this area - it's a critical focal point for us.

4y"because you believe",or what I refer to as happy, willful ignorance. We all do it of course, but there are some things that we'd be well advised to learn about
