It's almost time for #Thanksgiving in the United States and that has us thinking about food! And so, this week’s #DYK post is serving up a heaping helping of one of our favorite topics at the Great Lakes Fishery Commission… lamprey pies! #DYK sea lampreys have been eaten in many parts of the world for centuries? In fact, sea lampreys are even considered a delicacy in some areas! If you travel to Spain, Portugal, or France—all areas where sea lampreys are native—you might even find sea lampreys on the menu. Additionally, in the United Kingdom, sea lampreys have been eaten in pie form since at least the 12th century. Originally, a lamprey pie was presented to the monarchy every Christmas—a costly gift given the rarity of sea lampreys at that time of year. Eventually, the yule tide custom was discontinued in 1836, after which lamprey pies were reserved only for coronations. The traditional lamprey pie recipe consists of sea lampreys set in cool syrup and covered with a large, raised crust. When the crust is opened, the liquid is mixed with wine and spices, and then spooned onto slices of bread in a warmed dish. In 2002, 2012, and 2015, the Great Lakes Fishery Commission joined this nearly thousand-year-old tradition by providing sea lampreys for pies for Queen Elizabeth II! Over the last century, while sea lampreys were establishing in the Great Lakes and growing abundant, sea lampreys became rare in the United Kingdom. As a consequence, when the Queen celebrated multiple milestones from 2002-2015, the chefs turned to the Great Lakes to source their sea lampreys. The most recent pie, provided in 2015 when the Queen became Britain’s longest reigning monarch, was shaped as the Gloucester Cathedral and took 30 hours to make. Adventurous eaters reading this post may be pondering whether they, too, could try a Great Lakes sea lamprey (in pie form or otherwise). Unfortunately, we have bad news for those of you who might be hungry for Great Lakes sea lampreys. Our sea lampreys should not be eaten due to their high mercury levels which result from feeding on the blood of top predator fish. Additionally, all culinary reports from the early days of the sea lamprey invasion—before the mercury concerns were known—indicate Great Lakes sea lampreys just simply taste bad. Have you ever eaten a lamprey (European sea lamprey, Pacific lamprey, or another species)? Let us know in the comments! And if you want to learn more about lamprey pie and how Great Lakes sea lampreys were used to make pies for Queen Elizabeth II, check out this news article https://lnkd.in/gwCF6RJN. Witness the miraculous transformation from water to wine in the biblical story of the Miracle at Cana, performed by Jesus. See how this incredible event showcases Jesus' divine power and love for his followers. Imagine a wedding in Cana, the air thick with laughter and celebration, but suddenly, a hush falls over the crowd. The wine has run out. Panic sets in. Now, weddings are all about joy, and running out of wine? That’s a disaster! But then, in walks Jesus. He sees the worry etched on the faces of the hosts. With a simple command, He transforms ordinary water into the finest wine. This isn’t just a party trick; it’s a powerful message. It shows us that Jesus has authority over nature, that He can take our mundane, our ordinary, and turn it into something extraordinary. Think about it—how often do we feel like we’re running on empty? Like joy is just out of reach? This miracle isn’t just about wine; it’s a reminder that God’s grace can fill our lives with abundance and joy, even in the most unexpected ways.

As a marketer, I strongly believe in repurposing content, & am a big fan of the PESO model - using a strategic combination of Paid, Earned, Shared, & Owned media channels - for distribution. I’ve discovered that visually rich carousel posts on our LinkedIn page are a particularly powerful way to increase brand awareness & engagement, as well as drive traffic to our blog/website (ticking the Earned, Shared, & Owned boxes respectively). In fact, LinkedIn’s analytics show our carousel posts typically score 4 or 5 times higher engagement rates than single image posts. And the more ‘cards’ in the carousel, the better. The maximum number of cards LinkedIn allows for non-sponsored carousel posts is 10, & I’ve found the sweet spot to be between 8 & 10 cards. Taking my latest 600-word Halloween-themed blog post & transforming it into a visually impactful 10-card carousel post was creatively very satisfying. I’d say it was one of my favourite blog promo campaigns to date! 🎃 Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to create your own carousel posts: https://lnkd.in/epcpE6e5 #marketing #contentmarketing #tricksofthetrade
🎃 Ireland is the birthplace of Halloween, a much-loved holiday celebration widely observed in many countries today. Its origins lie in the ancient Celtic harvest festival of Samhain. Over time, Samhain evolved with Christian influences, becoming Hallowe’en – the evening before the Feast of All Saints (the ‘Hallowed Ones’) – with versions of its ancient pagan rituals woven into modern traditions like trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, and masked costume parties. So, what can the echoes of this ancient Gaelic seasonal festival teach us about the urgency of climate action today, and the cost of inaction – not only to food security, but also the rich and diverse cultural heritage bestowed upon communities by their ancestors over thousands of years? We entered 2025 on a high by beating previous FY numbers, while yet last quarter is to go. We have gone from strength to strength in all coordinates: Team Size, Size of Warehouse(s), SOH, Business Volume & making our tech smarter. There will be a lot of "#greens", both in products (launches) & practices in coming months as we work towards conscious consumerism. Here's to #2025. 🥂
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year #2025. #glubery

Dumplings are a culinary masterpiece that have long and storied roots in Chinese culture. Most dumplings are commonly steamed, boiled, or fried, can be either sweet or savory, and are often paired with specific festivals. Dumplings are one of the most important foods in Chinese New Year. Since the shape of dumplings is similar to ancient gold or silver ingots, they symbolize wealth. Traditionally, the members of a family get together to make dumplings during New Year's Eve, and a coin is hidden in one of the dumplings. The person who finds the coin will likely have a good fortune in the New Year! #Travel #seetheworld #Travelbucketlist #Classylassies #Celticheartstravel #Virtuosotravel #Luxurytravel
