Nature Positive: What does this even mean? 🐆 🌿 Nature Positivity goes beyond simply maintaining our environment. It aims to reverse nature loss by 2030 and achieve full recovery by 2050. This means a world with more species, healthier ecosystems, and stronger natural processes. 🤔 Why is it important? - Humanity relies on nature. A healthy planet is essential for clean air, water, and food security. - The current trajectory is unsustainable. Climate change and biodiversity loss threaten our future. - Nature Positivity is achievable. Measurable metrics can track progress towards a "net positive" for nature and disclose actions that matter most. 🏢 How can businesses contribute? - Assess your impact. Understand how your operations affect ecosystems. The EU already started to push for this with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). - Set science-based targets. Commit to specific goals for biodiversity improvement. Stick to measurable and evidence-based indicators. - Shift your business model. Prioritize nature preservation and restoration. Actively protect nature (e.g. within your supply chain, or using biodiversity credits) to counterbalance negative impact. - Advocate for policy change. Support policies that protect and restore nature. We have to understand that Nature Positivity isn't just good for the planet, it's also good for business. By investing in a biodiverse world, we're investing in more resilient ecosystem services the economy relies on, which we took so long for granted. 🌍 Who's on board? The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), adopted by the UN in December 2022, marks a significant step towards achieving Nature Positivity. This framework sets a clear global mission to halt and reverse biodiversity loss, reflecting the urgency of the situation. It's a powerful signal that governments are recognizing the importance of a healthy planet. Nature Positivity is a global effort with a diverse group of organizations, including businesses, NGOs, Indigenous Peoples, and scientific institutions on board, ready to execute this ambitious goal. May 22 is celebrated as #InternationalDayOfBiodiversity. It is time to spotlight the ambitious goals set by the United Nations and the transformative power of the circular economy in achieving them. This year’s theme, ‘Be Part of the Plan’, calls for action to support the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, aiming to restore 30% of ecosystems, halve food waste, and invest significantly in biodiversity-friendly strategies by 2030. The circular economy’s principles echo the UN’s goals for biodiversity: to respect, protect, and repair our biological wealth. It aligns perfectly with the UN’s vision by advocating for a world where resources are not consumed but used, where products are not discarded but repurposed, and where waste is not an end but a new beginning. Circular economy is not just an economic model; it’s a commitment to life, diversity, and sustainability. By designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems, the circular economy reduces the pressures on biodiversity. It addresses the root causes of biodiversity loss by transforming our production and consumption systems, which account for approximately 90% of the global pressure on biodiversity. On this International Day of Biodiversity, let’s commit to the circular economy as our guiding principle. Let’s build back biodiversity by making choices that honor the interconnectedness of all life forms. Together, we can create a sustainable future where the circular economy and biodiversity conservation go hand in hand. Today is International Day for Biological Diversity As a committed participant in global sustainability efforts, SWISS KRONO Group is delighted to support this year's motto of the International Day of Biodiversity: "Be Part of the Plan". 🤝 On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving the diverse resources that sustain us all. 🌱 We demonstrate this, for example, by actively participating in the IUFRO-MONDI partnership. This platform for science and business has set itself the task of better understanding the effects of climate change and the challenges for forests and the forest-based industry and identifying countermeasures in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through intensive collaboration between experts from the private sector and the research community, the aim is to develop response measures that make a maximum contribution to the SDGs, especially climate change mitigation and adaptation, human livelihoods and biodiversity conservation.
