🤖 How can digitalisation improve safety in robotics? What are the safety challenges limiting robotics and how can they be overcome? What technologies and approaches should we, as a safety community, drive and promote in robotics? At the European Robotics Forum 2024, the Topic Group Safety - Challenges and Innovations workshop will address these questions. Our comprehensive survey on parallel-continuum robots has been published in IEEE Transactions on Robotics! This survey was led by Sven Lilge and Jessica Burgner-Kahrs at the University of Toronto Robotics Institute in collaboration with Jake A. Childs and Caleb Rucker from the REACH Lab at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Kefei Wen from The University of British Columbia, and Kathrin Gaa (née Nuelle) from the Institute of Mechatronic Systems at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Parallel-continuum robots uniquely blend the advantages of both parallel and continuum robotics. They offer a balance between the flexibility and slenderness of continuum robots and the high precision and strength of rigid-link parallel robots. These properties are particularly beneficial in medical and industrial applications, where increased strength and precision are required alongside the dexterity of continuum robots. This survey delves into their classification, design, modeling, and potential applications, bridging knowledge between parallel and continuum robotics and providing entry points for further research. I'm thrilled to announce that my paper titled "LLMT: A Transformer-Based Multi-Modal Lower Limb Human Motion Prediction Model for Assistive Robotics Applications" has been published in IEEE Access! This work explores the development of a novel model using transformer-based architecture to predict lower limb human motion, with applications in assistive robotics. It has been a challenging and rewarding journey, and I'm grateful to everyone who supported and contributed to this research. An example for the possiblities of a compactFrame microscope... Together with our partners at CMO-SYS GmbH, we recently built a proof-of-concept robotic microscope - with a compactFrame microscope, including epifluorescence, our UMS focus drive and camera mounted on a STÄUBLI Robotics arm and controlled by software developed by the team at CMO-SYS GmbH. In the video below, we imaged a stained styrofoam ball with a low maginfication objective to show the possiblities of this combination.
