One wonders, with all the DefTech startup investment and innovation, are the last supper primes worried? Our take is no, here’s why: 1. The Pentagon pie is large and hasn’t stopped growing of late, so there’s room for new entrants without eating their bottom line. 2. Infrastructure is a moat, startups might build out some software, a few drones, maybe a UUV, but are they going to make an F35 or Columbia class? No, and those contracts are reliable CPFF margin. 3. Large companies need to buy small companies to keep innovating, you see a lot of M&A most tech sectors, including DefTech, so the successful startups are going to be future business units with derisked product development. 4. The research still find their product development, and this is a code that startups are barely starting to crack, and they still have a lot of that tech on the shelf.

Great article and definitive reasons to invest in Ukraine now
In the latest edition of Icebreaker newsletter, I talked to an LA-based investor who is actively investing in startups engaged on a battlefield in Ukraine. Yes, you read that correctly. Here's his investment thesis: The ongoing conflict and urgent demand have been accelerating innovation in certain sectors, through rapid development and iteration. “Ukraine right now needs as many drones in the air as it can get for as inexpensive as they can be made to accomplish the mission that they’re designed to suit,” says Justin Zeefe. Meet the core team of Defence Builder Accelerator! Ivan Kaunov, our CEO and co-founder, brings a unique blend of startup expertise as a co-founder of Finmap.online, online experience, and hands-on experience from the Armed Forces. Starting in 2022, he has been working with different IRS drones and transformed his expertise into developing soft and hardware solutions at Buntar Aerospace. Alongside him is Kateryna Bezsudna, our COO and co-founder, whose experience from Buntar Aerospace and SKELAR adds invaluable investor and government relations insights to our team. Saveliy Serebrov, our Program Manager, leverages his extensive background in product management, business analytics, and management consulting to ensure that startups get practical value from our program. The idea for Defence Builder came from the team's experience in the defence sector and startup world. The team saw a gap in support for startups navigating the early stages of development in defence tech. Ivan and Kateryna launched Buntar Aerospace to show that they could turn ideas into reality, and now, they want to help other startups do the same. Defence Builder is about creating a supportive ecosystem for defence tech startups in Ukraine. Alongside experienced mentors and military personnel as advisors, the team is here to offer knowledge, connections, and a path to scaling up. The goal is clear: to build a strong defence tech market in Ukraine. Applications for startups are open till April 30: https://lnkd.in/dB3xctX4
