As a surgeon, I firmly believe that patient-centered care is the cornerstone of effective healthcare. This approach not only improves patient satisfaction but also leads to better health outcomes and overall quality of care. Understanding Patient-Centered Care Patient-centered care shifts the focus from simply treating conditions to truly understanding the needs and preferences of each patient. The Role of Nursing Leadership Nursing leadership plays a pivotal role in this approach, as nurses are often the ones who spend the most time with patients. For example, nurse leaders can directly impact patient care by: Coordinating multidisciplinary rounds. Speaking up during care planning meetings to ensure that each patient's concerns are heard and addressed by the entire healthcare team. These actions help align care plans with the values and goals of patients, making the care they receive more meaningful and effective. Supporting Our Nursing Leaders As clinicians and healthcare leaders, it’s essential that we support our nursing leaders in this mission, as they are vital in promoting a culture of patient-centered care throughout our institutions. To all the nurses out there: What would help you lead the way in delivering exceptional patient-centered care? I’d love to hear your thoughts! #nurses #patientsafety #patientcare

#Nurses can impact #healthpolicy! Check out these examples of ways nurses have changed the #healthcare delivery system. #nursesonlinkedin #healthcareonlinkedin
As we continue our legislative task force efforts, we were inspired by Dr. Melinda Kidder DHA, MSN, RN, CENP's session on Nurse-Led Advocacy. It highlighted some remarkable achievements driven by #nurses that have already made a significant impact on healthcare policy: 1. Lymphedema Treatment Act: Nurses actively raised awareness about lymphedema and its treatment needs, sharing patient stories and lobbying for equitable insurance coverage, which ultimately led to the passage of this vital legislation. 2. Palliative Care and Cancer Drug Parity: Nurses advocated for this act by highlighting the importance of equitable access to palliative care and oral cancer medications, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive and compassionate care. 3. Title VII Nursing Workforce Reauthorization Act: Nurses participated in grassroots efforts to secure funding for nursing education and workforce development, recognizing that a strong nursing workforce is essential for quality healthcare. These are just a few great examples that illustrate the powerful role nurses play in shaping healthcare policy and advocating for the needs of patients. 💪❤️ We must keep advocating for the needs of our profession and how it links to the greater healthcare system.
