Is it time to consider assisted living support for your loved one? Here are three signs to watch out for: 1️⃣ Struggling with Basic Tasks: Noticeable changes in their ability to manage daily activities like cooking, cleaning, or medication could signal the need for assistance. From relying on TV dinners to neglecting pet care, these challenges may indicate a need for additional support. 2️⃣ Decline in Home Maintenance: If you observe disarray and neglect in their living environment despite efforts to maintain it, it may be time to consider assisted living. Our community provides comprehensive care for those who require more support with daily tasks. 3️⃣ Financial Management Issues: Difficulty managing finances, accumulating past-due notices, or disorganization may indicate memory impairment or cognitive decline. Assisted living offers assistance and oversight to ensure their financial well-being. Transitioning to assisted living can be emotional, but prioritizing the safety and well-being of your aging loved one is crucial. Navigating the tender journey of transitioning a senior family member to a new living situation is a delicate task many of us face. I see it daily in my line of work - helping families in Brockville, Kingston, and beyond. 🍁 There's a crucial conversation that's often difficult to start: comparing the costs of assisted living versus long-term care. It's not just about budgets; it's about understanding the value of care, comfort, and community for our loved ones. Here's a breakdown to guide that conversation: 🔸 Assisted Living: Tailored for those who cherish their independence but need a bit of help. Typically includes rent, utilities, meals, and housekeeping. Optional services may add to the cost but also personalize the experience. 🔸 Long-Term Care: Suited for seniors needing more comprehensive 24/7 care. It tends to be more expensive due to the level of medical support and attention required. These are the facts, yet every family's situation is unique. That's where I come in: ✅ Listen to Needs: I take the time to understand the individual needs of each senior and their family. ✅ Research with Care: Provide a detailed look into local retirement community options that fit your loved ones' lifestyles and care needs. ✅ Manage the Transition: From selling the family home to downsizing and organizing the move, I make the process as stress-free as possible. The result is more than a financial transaction; it's a new chapter in life treated with dignity, respect, and a deep sense of responsibility. If you're facing this crossroad and feeling overwhelmed, let's start a conversation. What's been your biggest concern in finding the right care for the seniors in your life? Share your thoughts and let's help each other through this journey. #SeniorCare #RetirementPlanning #AssistedLiving #LongTermCare #RealEstate #FamilySupport #seniortransitions

When vulnerable people are forced to move from their safe haven (home), what happens to their spirit? I'm looking to connect with more providers of care in the home / domicialliary care to make care in the home possible, for longer. WHY? Well...May 4th would have been my grandad's 92nd birthday! I love looking back through photos and enjoying the memories, but the later ones make me feel so sad. His home was his safe place. He always said, "I was born here and I'll die here!" How morbid we all thought, BUT when I birthed my two youngest babies at home, I started to see his point of view. Home is where people should feel relaxed, safe and at their happiest...when all is well. Once Grandad's home was no longer suitable for his needs he went to hospital after hospital, nursing home after nursing home....there just aren't enough spaces to give people the care they need and adaptations aren't always easy. He'd always been sharp, funny and intelligent, loved crosswords and puzzles. Soon that side of him disappeared, his eyes had changed. Now, every week I see houses like this, some with a person's last meal in the sink. People scared to spend on their homes in case they spend their children's inheritence. It drives me to help more families, to steer my company in a direction that can make an even bigger impact when it really matters. So... Yes, it's important to refurbish tired and run down properties to create great quality housing for new families - I'm still continuing with that! Yes, I still love staging properties for sale and helping people get the sale they deserve. But, just like my parents are preparing their home to be a well-planned and adapted property into their twilight years (they're actually spring chickens still), I plan to help other families do the same. To help families understand that spending money on improving a property to enable comfortable living, long into retirement is actually an INVESTMENT... AND in can enable care in the home which protects your property and in my opinion, well-being for longer. Here's my grandad below... on the left after he'd moved to a 'nice' but unfamiliar care home. #feelingblessed #RetirementPlanning #refurbishment #care #domiciliarycare #careinthecommunity #property

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐬𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 🦃 Express Gratitude Start by sharing how much you value your family and want to protect them. For example, say, “I feel lucky to have all of you, and I want to ensure we’re prepared for the future.” 🦃 Keep It Light Frame estate planning as an empowering topic rather than a somber one. For instance, mention, “Let’s chat about how we can prepare for life’s unexpected moments.” 🦃 Highlight Shared Benefits Show how estate planning benefits everyone by easing future uncertainties. A statement like, “This is about ensuring none of us feel overwhelmed during difficult times,” helps focus on the positives. 🦃 Address Individual Needs Tailor the discussion to resonate with each family member’s life stage. For young adults, emphasize healthcare directives; for retirees, highlight long-term care planning. 🦃 Encourage Family Involvement Involving everyone fosters transparency and helps align expectations. A unified conversation ensures each person’s wishes are respected. From: https://buff.ly/49bf7yQ #holiday #estateplanning

FAMILY MEETINGS: For many years now, I have facililtated family meetings, and tonight I get the privilege of facilitating my own. My two brothers and I are sitting down to talk through our own aging, retirement, caregiving, and the expectations we have for each other. We are 58, 56, and 54. None of us are married, none of us have children, and I live 1,500 miles away. We are considered solo-agers, but with siblings. Here are some things I found most helpful in hosting family meetings, whether you are doing so privately or with a professional facilitator like myself: 1. Arrange a time and place to meet that is conducive to having a meaningful conversation. This is an important topic and requires the appropriate intentionality and setting. 2. Be honest. This sounds simple, but it is often the hardest thing to do with those we love most. I had to get really honest with myself about my willingness and availability to be a caregiver for my brothers. The truth is, I can help them put together a great care plan for themselves, but I will be supporting them from afar. And, also, I don't want to serve at financial Power of Attorney or executor of their estates. I would like a third party to do that. 3. Document the conversations. Some may think that this is overkill, but I have seen so many families "forget" what was decided. Documenting the conversation allows all parties the opportunity to clarify any discrepancies BEFORE the plan is needed. 4. Review regularly. I am going to suggest that my brothers and I check in annually. April 16th is National Healthcare Decisions Day, and upcoming so it feels like a great anniversary date. What other advice do you recommend? What tips have you found most helpful with YOUR family conversations? #familyconversations #seniorcare #eldercare #powerofattorney #estateplanning #financialplanning

Happy First Anniversary to My Circle! We’re celebrating with a NEW website. Please take a look! 👇 Here’s a quick summary of our year: We’ve spent YR1 building our operations, creating Life-In-Home plans, and caring for our Senior Members and Their Families. We focused on enabling seniors to age in their homes with independence, safety, and community. Our Members and their families shared feedback with us, and we started understanding how My Circle improves life at home. Our most significant marketing challenge was communicating simply how My Circle makes Life In Home 10x better for Members and their families. Here are some of the most common things we heard this year: COMMON FEEDBACK #1 Senior: “You’re a home care company.” My Circle: "Our role is to be your guide and partner. We will help you think through what support you need, build a plan, and connect you with vetted partners. When life changes, we help carry the burden and help you change your plan." COMMON FEEDBACK #2 Senior: “I have everything covered. My kids take care of it all.” My Circle - “We find our members can enjoy their time with family more. That’s because My Circle helps keep family members from task-making. Our goal is to provide you with a circle of support so you can have more fun quality time with your children.” COMMON FEEDBACK #3 Senior: “I don’t have a critical event. Let’s deal with this later.” My Circle - “Waiting for a plan will lead to fewer options, financial missteps, and choices that aren’t in the direction of your goals. My Circle helps you create a plan that ensures you have the most control and options on your future.” COMMON FEEDBACK #4 Senior: “What do I need a plan for - I’m doing just fine.” My Circle - “Declines can happen suddenly, and we don’t always notice small day-to-day changes. My Circle meets with you regularly for a Health, Happiness, and Safety check-in. Family members often feel shocked and concerned by a senior's decline. The reaction is, “We have to do something.” The My Circle Life-In-Home plan and Circle of Support ensure you have a plan and support before someone else takes the wheel.” COMING SOON: I'll share our members' stories. OMG! These stories of seniors living at home and their children’s positive experiences are impactful, emotional, and rewarding. THANKFUL: I'm grateful that in just a year, we improved the lives of nearly 150 people, and we have only just begun. In the following year, we'll continue to deliver on our mission to "Support Seniors and Create Possibilities." HOW YOU CAN HELP? If you're the adult child of a senior, I'd love your thoughts on our website. Take a look and let me know if it's clear how My Circle can help. https://lnkd.in/g5JpBMP6
