Taking a Break and Enjoying the Local Baseball Scene ⚾ After a busy week of scouting top talent and matching candidates with their dream jobs, there's nothing like taking a well-deserved break. This weekend, I found myself at a local baseball game, enjoying the fresh air, the sound of the bat hitting the ball, and the community spirit that comes with it. Watching the game reminded me of the parallels between sports and recruitment: - **Teamwork:** Just as in baseball, building a strong team in the workplace requires collaboration and mutual support. - **Strategy:** Identifying the right talent for the right position is much like choosing the perfect play to win the game. - **Passion:** Whether on the field or in the office, passion drives success and makes the hard work worthwhile. Taking time to relax and recharge not only fuels my passion for recruitment but also keeps me connected with the community and the people we serve. If you’re also a fan of balancing work with life’s little joys, let's connect and share our experiences. Here’s to finding the perfect balance between work and play! ⚾🌞 #Recruitment #WorkLifeBalance #Community #SummerVibes

I'm thinking of "leveling up" with an accountability group! Lately, I’ve been seeing how consistent effort in sports and recreation has paid off, and I’m curious about bringing that focus into my work. I hope a group like this will help me stay consistent with things like appreciating people I appreciate, following up, and staying on top of social media. Of course, like everyone, I’ve got the “busy” excuse. And maybe I’m too hard on myself—would the group be one more thing to juggle? But, I think I'd also love having a small team outside my team, sharing some mutual support. Have you ever been part of an accountability group? If so, what were you hoping to get out of it, and did it work? And, importantly…should I give it a try? (Feels like one of those things you can’t half-commit to, right?) #accountabilitygroup #consistency #5km #sports #recreation

With the 2024 NFL season kicking off this week, I was thinking "Can I put my many years as fantasy football commissioner for both family and work leagues as 'job experience'?" Roles & Responsibilities include team management, communication and engagement, technology management, and community building. My qualifications are: • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster a positive atmosphere. • Conflict resolution skills with the ability to handle disputes objectively. • Comfortable using multiple web platforms and related communication tools (like Slack, Discord). • Creative mindset with a knack for developing engaging content and events. • Willingness to commit to multi-month project. I think this counts 😉 , what do you think?

With the first pick in the 2024 Draft... Can you imagine if hiring was like drafting in sports? It is. The candidate's past is how they will perform for you. Sadly it is rare that someone who is a #2 gets that shot to be a #1 even after sitting behind one of the best DOSMs in the area. The major difference is that your job description says... ⚾ 8 years of leadership experience 🏈 Lead a team of 7 🏀 Sell for more than 400 rooms That strong #2... they have all of that... 🏅 They were a leader at 23, now 31... 8 years. 🥇 They have led teams as large as 10, it may have been in a different department, but they did it. 🥈 They sold for 800 rooms as a Sales manager and now are #2 at 300 rooms... they still did it. When Professional teams draft players they comb through the tapes and the resume, and 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐢𝐭. When we hire, well... We glance at a piece of paper for 8-14 seconds and make a gut instinct that they are or are not a fit. If you do not give that #2 a chance...someone else will and it could come back to bite you in the A&#. #changethenarrative

Thematically, one helpful advice I give is to go into more detail of your career goals. One common goal I get (in my mentorship calls) is: "I want to get into esports" Great! That's a good start, but esports as an industry can mean a lot of different things in terms of job functionality and day to day work. It's more helpful to ask yourself: - "What jobs appeal to me within the industry?" - "Do I want to work in an org / team / studio?" - "Do I prefer structured or unstructured work environments?" - "Do I like small / med / large teams?" - "Do I like traveling?" There's dozens of other questions that you can ask yourself to get closer to figuring out what you want your career trajectory to be.

My dear #linkedinfriends , I believe, we should not treat organizations as a #sportteam or as a #family. While the adage suggests that 1+1 equals 3, when we work together and we collaborate as a team, it's essential to recognize that likening organizations to sports teams may not always be an apt comparison. Unlike the world of sports, where individual talent and passion are paramount, organizations encompass a diverse array of roles, not all of which are inherently vocational. While it is commendable for individuals to invest effort and passion in their work, it's crucial to acknowledge that not every job aligns seamlessly with personal passion. Some roles may be chosen out of necessity, skill set, or practical considerations rather than an inherent passion for the task at hand. Additionally, individuals often harbor passions outside of their professional sphere, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of human interests. Attempting to foster a familial atmosphere in the workplace, while well-intentioned, has its limitations. Unlike a family dynamic, professional relationships involve hierarchical structures and performance evaluations. In a family, one does not hire or fire relatives, nor does one promote or demote family members based on their professional achievements. In summary, while collaboration and teamwork are invaluable in organizational settings, it's crucial to appreciate the nuanced differences between professional and sporting dynamics. Recognizing the individuality of talents, passions, and motivations within an organization fosters a more holistic understanding of the diverse factors that contribute to its success. Furthermore, acknowledging that not all jobs align with personal passion underscores the need for a nuanced approach to organizational dynamics, one that transcends simplistic comparisons to familial or sports team structures. Have a great day, dear friends! 🙂
