Well said by Christopher Luxon and Todd McClay! I look very much forward to the closer partnership between 🇳🇿New Zealand and 🇨🇳China on #EconomyandTrade in depth and breadth. There are quite many areas in which the joint efforts could take place, such as #Agribusiness, #FoodandBeverage, #RenewableEnergy, #EV, #CircularEconomy, #BlueEconomy, #Education, #YouthsDevelopment, #AI, #DigitalEconomy, #Tourism, #ConferencesandEvents, etc. This will help foster a more #sustainable, #resilient and #inclusive bilateral economic and trade partnership that benefits both countries, the #APAC region, and the people that are all interested. 🌏
This is why we’re out there engaging with the world.

November 1, 1910 - The first edition of Crisis magazine is published by the NAACP with W.E.B. Du Bois as its editor. The Crisis is the official magazine of the NAACP. The Crisis has been in continuous print since 1910, and it is the oldest Black-oriented magazine in the world. Today, The Crisis is “a quarterly journal of civil rights, history, politics, and culture and seeks to educate and challenge its readers about issues that continue to plague African Americans and other communities of color.” November 1, 1942 - John H. Johnson publishes the first issue of Negro Digest. The Negro Digest, later renamed Black World, was a magazine for the African American market. The Negro Digest was similar to Reader’s Digest but aimed to cover positive stories about the African American community. The Negro Digest ceased publication in 1951 but later returned in 1961 and was published until April 1976. November 1, 1945 - The first issue of Ebony magazine is published. Ebony will be the catalyst for a communications empire that will include magazines, book publishing, and radio. November 1, 1951 - Jet magazine was founded by John H. Johnson, publisher of Ebony magazine. Initially billed as “The Weekly Negro News Magazine”, Jet chronicled the Civil Rights Movement from its earliest years, including the murder of Emmett Till, the Montgomery bus boycott, and the activities of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

As we celebrate Passover tonight, commemorating the Jews’ exodus from slavery into freedom, Jewish students all over the world, and markedly Columbia University, are facing tragic manifestations of antisemitism. Jews are experiencing over and over the hidden truth behind “anti-Zionism” and “anti-Israelism”. This is nothing new for us, but every once in a while it comes out of the shadows in destructive, dangerous, and painful ways. My grandparents survived the Holocaust in the 1940s, though with unfathomable trauma and loss. My parents were pushed out of Poland in the 1960s for being Jews, ironically told to “go back to Palestine”. Today, Jewish organizations are urging Jewish students to leave campus and go home, away from the mobs, because their safety cannot be guaranteed by those who are supposed to protect them. When Jewish students are no longer safe on their own university campuses; when Jews have to question their safety in their work places and communities, face harassment— manifest and veiled under socially acceptable terms— society has really been turned upside down once again. As an educator, a college professor of students who will go out into the field as professional counselors, I am scared of where academia is going, the mob mentality, the destruction of independent critical analysis and thought. I worry about students and professionals who ignorantly hitch a ride on a bandwagon that hails a convoluted definition of Zionism; that equate anti-Zionism and anti-Israelism with a social justice mindset, in par with what is acceptable by those around them, without any regard of its dire consequences. I worry for the world my children will grow up in, but I also know we will persevere. Tonight we will have an empty seat at our Passover table for the hostages remaining in captivity. We will sing songs and say prayers for our people’s freedom and safety, for the young soldiers protecting our homeland, and for all of us who are living in today’s uncertain reality.
