Impact isn't a buzzword! It should be a lifestyle During a meeting with the team today Discussing a new community project for children I asked. ✨ How do we measure the impact of this project? ✨ And how do we ensure it's sustainable? My question was followed by a long pause And a few great suggestions. Often I see founders get carried away by - The fame - The recognition - Likes, comments, and praises by others - The admiration of attempting what others overlooked But they fail to focus on the real question Is this sustainable? Or is it going to be one of those "pick me projects" that fizzle away? Creating social change isn't a walk in the pack But moving from initial dopamine hits to questions such as: - How do we ensure it's long-lasting? - What are the tangible metrics to measure our impact? - How do we put systems in place to ensure longevity? - How can we sustain progress across generations? There is a deep desire to contribute selflessly, finding fulfillment in serving others and appreciating life's gifts. Many, including myself, have pursued "social impact" careers to lead a purposeful life, making a difference in the world. However, the current focus on chasing capital, impact, and adhering strictly to SMART metrics has shifted the sector's essence. From Voluntary Sector to Non-Governmental Organizations to Social Impact Organizations, the emphasis seems to have strayed from the human connection, leaving us feeling detached within and from the world around us. In a system where everything is measured in SMART metrics, the essence of giving and receiving gifts seems to have been lost. Where are those days of 'Sevā' with selflessness? Where are those ethos of 'Dāna' with anonymity & trust? We need them back (not in just words) for solving #climatechange #socialinjustice
