Have you ever walked into a space and immediately felt at-ease? Often, that space is home, a friend’s house, or even a Third Place, such as a library or a local bar. It’s less common to experience this reaction in a workplace – but sensory design is an approach that can change this. Our most recent article explores how considering every one of our five senses can boost employees’ comfort within the workplace and enhance their wellbeing. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eP3qNtfy

Here is my most recent article! In this piece, I explore not only how sensory design can benefit neurotypical employees, but how it can assist neurodivergent employees in navigating an often overwhelming environment and improve their wellbeing. With the government keen to get those on mental health wards back into work in an effective, healthy manner, sensory design is a key concept for ensuring a more comfortable working environment to return to. It's also surprising how often 'biophilic design' sprouts up in discussions of improving workplace environments and employee wellbeing - but as an avid nature lover, actually, it's not all that surprising at all.... #article #ContentWriting #WorkplaceWellbeing #neurodivergence #MentalHealth

Could these facts change your opinion on communal spaces in workplace design? 🤔 It's interesting how human brain works towards change and innovation. We naturally tend to put more focus and energy towards the negatives. Even though communal areas in the workplace is very much old news to most of us, most businesses (or the decision makers) are still focusing on the fact that a few sofas and a kitchen island is a distraction for the employees rather than an investment into their company culture and employee wellbeing. And the facts here speak for themselves 👇 1/4 of the world's population feel lonely and lack a sense of community around them, which then can lead to some very dark statistics.. I think a well designed workplace can really help to improve this situation with just a few easy improvements in the design of the space itself. Prioritise Employee Wellbeing with Thoughtful Lighting Design Workplace design isn’t just about aesthetics – it’s about creating a healthy, engaging space for employees. One often overlooked factor is the role that lighting colour temperature plays in employee wellbeing. Cooler lighting is perfect for areas where sharp focus is required, while warmer lighting creates a more relaxed and inviting atmosphere, ideal for breakout spaces and quiet zones. The right lighting strategy can help employees feel more comfortable, motivated, and energised. Want to know how to enhance your workplace’s wellbeing factor with the power of lighting? Our latest blog dives deep into the science behind colour temperature and its impact on mood. 📖 https://lnkd.in/eKJiWAHX #EmployeeWellbeing #OfficeLighting #HealthyWorkplaces #LightingSolutions #Tamlite

We spend roughly a third of our working day at work, so how we feel there deeply impacts our health, happiness and wellbeing. Unhappy staff are inherently unproductive. First morale, then low productivity. A lack of ideas, collaboration, communication. Then comes poor health, sickness and absence. If ignored, it'll turn into looking for a new job. And will you find the best talent if your staff are leaving in droves? The ones you've invested your time, energy and training with? It's a bit of a gamble. Much better, and more cost (and time!) effective to look after your current team. To create a workspace where they can be happy, healthy and well. And, of course, more productive! A holistic design approach results in comfortable, multi-sensory, positive, flexible spaces promoting well-being, productivity and collaboration. Sensitively designed lighting, acoustics plus comfortable furniture with considered placement can help people to easily and comfortably focus on the tasks required. I create beautiful, free-flowing, healthy workspaces that positively impact staff happiness and relationships, team collaboration and productivity, retention and recruitment. Wellbeing is critical!
One of 3 opportunities for impact that Design with Impact focuses on is "Wellbeing". MTA Office (Miles Treaster Associates) & MillerKnoll recognize that a business can only be successful when their people are thriving, which is why our goal is to support the physical, psychological, and social needs of their employees. Some ways Wellbeing is impacted is through proper ergonomic furnishings, a variety of spaces for where and how work gets done, and proper areas for rest and rejuvenation. Biophilia and properly lit spaces can help create calming environments and promote psychological wellbeing and productivity. Wellbeing also emphasizes the social need for belonging by creating spaces that prevent feelings of isolation and connect people back to their organization.
