Deleting ending sounds helps students isolate and manipulate phonemes. Here's a walkthrough on how to introduce "final phoneme deletion" in just 5-7 minutes a day. We'll start by naming a word, such as "mass." Students will repeat it and identify the final sound. Then, they'll say the word again, this time without the ending sound. This demonstrates their ability to isolate and remove phonemes! The greater their comfort with phoneme manipulation, the better equipped students will be to sound out new words!
