Australian Railway Signalling. After 18 months, I have completed writing the Australian Railway Signalling Reference Book. The book is aligned with the learning needs for apprentice signal technicians and graduate engineers. The book will also be a handy reference to all practicing signal engineers and other engineers and project managers who work with signal engineers. The book is undergoing final proof reading by the publisher and will be available in early 2025. The book is hard cover, A4, quality gloss paper and high quality printing. The book has about 344 pages, approximately 700 photos and drawings. The 33 chapters cover a broad range of the subjects that will be encountered when working on signalling projects and signalling systems within Australia. A special Pre-Publication Offer is available to those interested in securing a copy of the book. The attached flyer provides details of the Offer. Best regards, Trevor Moore.

4 years ago, the media profession commanded a greater level of respect than it does today. As someone with a background in sound engineering, I've observed fellow students engaging in the field without genuine passion, merely for the sake of appearing unique. This phenomenon poses a significant issue within our industry as the dynamics of supply and demand have undergone profound shifts in recent years. In the past, sound engineers were individuals well-versed in their craft, unafraid to challenge traditional techniques. This era birthed some of the most illustrious periods in the audio industry. However, the landscape has evolved. Nowadays, we often see individuals resembling lifeless figures occupying seats in corporate-owned studios, surrounded by an abundance of overhyped equipment they struggle to wield effectively. The result? A sterile environment where lackluster instrumentation is paired with uninspired vocals, culminating in audio productions that are, regrettably, mediocre at best. #audio #waves #cfbr #musicindustry #soundengineering

What Is RF?? I have released yet another video in my RF series: https://lnkd.in/et66mVvu All constructive comments on this video would be gratefully received to improve future videos. My next video will be "RF Safety". The content may be surprising to many people, and also quite funny in places (unless you are one of those who wears a tinfoil hat). I love presenting radio technique to adults. Now that I am (unwillingly) retired I will still continue to do it. If I cannot do it professionally then I will do it privately: I have converted a bedroom into a video recording studio. I do not have the resources available that I had in my 10 years in multimedia, but I am finding ways. I had to build my own microphone system and recycled e-cigarette batteries to power it. Audio still needs a bit of tweeking but it is getting better. I gave up on the radio microphones. It it is affordable on a pension then the quality is useless. If you want anything quality then you have to either pay through the nose, or make it yourself! I am still getting to know the studio-quality camera. I picked up an "almost-new" Canon HD DVC. The previous user only used it for 30 minutes, then stored for years before selling it on the second-user market. I really dropped-in lucky. I am still looking for a decent video editing program for HD video (1080p). I am using "OLIVE" (Open Source), which free, but it is a bit crude when it comes to chroma-key and other video effects. Today all the "good stuff" (Adobe Premiere, etc) is not for sale; you have to rent it and pay monthly license fees for all eternity! So I apologize if the video is a bit "pixely" in places. But every video is better than the previous. The number of viewers increases with each video published. Hope you enjoy it. Happy New year, from Harold "Harry" Lythall

What are Single-Tone and Multi-Tone Signals? A single-tone signal is a signal that consists of a single frequency and is represented graphically by a sinusoidal wave. Multi-tone signals, unlike single-tone signals, are composed of multiple single sine waves or tones with a unique amplitude, phase and frequency of each wave respectively. 🔌 Unless you’re an electrician or have experience with voltages, the term “negative voltage” can be confusing. Our latest blog demystifies this concept, explaining how it’s generated and its crucial role in circuit design—like in audio amplifiers and operational amplifiers. Two new videos uploaded. As usual these are radio videos, but these are: RF Safety Pt1 RF Safety Pt2 The next radio video will probably be "How Antennas Work", but the next general video will be about safe charging and charge balancing of LiPo cells without any expensive boards and boxes. Today everybody is blinkered into believing you have to buy a special unit to charge the cells. This is not the case if you know how to do it safely. Links to the two new videos are: https://lnkd.in/eUzvTrYZ RF Safety Pt1 https://lnkd.in/e_3-BZyW RF Safety Pt2 One other video on the list is: "Getting Old" (funny video, not radio related ;-) I still have trouble managing the video and sound editing SW, mainly because I am on a low budget and cannot just throw money at the problems. Best regards from Harold "Harry" Lythall
