Aging of the nuclear workhorses, whether used for medical isotope production, research purposes, or both, is only making things worse. On top of reliability challenges, these facilities are scarce and tend to be heavily oversubsribed. Nuclear systems, whether fission or accelerator based, are valuable production and investigative tools that public and private sector dollars should be focused on expanding! Encouraging investment in new facilities and funding of life extension efforts to keep existing systems running reliably long enough to switchover to new builds are important lobbying activities for all stakeholders.
