https://lnkd.in/gqPxbqeV #UniversalDesignLearning what is it? It sounds great, but how can we create a learning environment that is #flexible enough to cater to different #learningstyles? As an #advocate for #inclusion there are themes and patterns that can either serve as a tool for inclusion or be a #barrier. #Agency - a person being provided with and encouraged to have #choices. This allows an individual to self advocate and choose what will suit them. A sense of #ownership and improved #engagement. #LivedexperiencePerspective and #CoDesign multiples points of view, fused together to create a more #accessible whole. I feel #inspired after watching this clip where a teacher talks about his #struggles engaging in learning as a child with #ADHD and how he has taken that #experience and used it to create a #classroom environment based on Unviersal Design Learning. This is just under a 10mins clip, but if you are interested in #inclusiveeducation it is worth watching! 👇 NeuroEmploy Barb Cook, M.Aut., Dip.HSc.

These are my tried and true methods on how I help kids read without worksheets. I keep it tactile, and it is both enjoyable and successful for students with #dyslexia and #ADHD. Whether you are a parent #homeschooling your child or you are a classroom #teacher looking for fresh ideas, you can use these non-traditional tips to help any child love to write and read. I don't like to use worksheets because after awhile, the sounds and rules seem to blend altogether (Pun intended) and not to mention...boring. Make it fun, and kids will never say, "I hate reading!" #literacy #phonics #playbasedlearning https://lnkd.in/gD4DMf-4

Do you name and shame in your classrooms? This one hits home really as my eldest son really struggled with this during his EYFS experience and in Y1. So much so it began to erode his confidence and love of school. You know what I’m talking about - Star charts ⭐️ Thunderclouds ⛈️ Rainbows 🌈 For some kids (mostly those who are rule followers) this works, for others it’s entirely damaging. You essentially are naming and shaming publicly in the classroom. Which is why I love this article from Edutopia - George Lucas Educational Foundation where we focus on pedagogy, understanding how to adapt techniques to match learnign needs of students (aka all those out there with ADHD and dyslexia, and building strong classroom communities and cultures for learning. 👏 👏 👏 Instead of clip charts and data walls, try these classroom management techniques to discourage misbehavior and build a stronger classroom community. #community #education https://lnkd.in/e2-QFrAs
