Hearing that Professor Daron Acemoglu has just been awarded the #NobelPrize in Economics is thrilling! Just last week, I had the incredible opportunity to help organize and conceptualize the inaugural Albert Hirschman Lecture, which featured none other than Professor Acemoglu himself.
This new UNESCO lecture series provides a platform for leading thinkers and scholars from diverse fields to tackle the world’s most pressing global challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. Albert Hirschman, the renowned economist and humanist after whom this initiative is named, deeply understood the importance of addressing economic challenges through a human-centered lens.
The long-term macroeconomic and societal paradigms that have shaped our world now demand urgent reflection and recalibration to meet today's unprecedented challenges. The systems we've relied on for decades are not equipped to address the complexities of our time—whether it be climate change, growing inequalities, or the digital transformation that continues to deepen societal divides.
Many may feel these issues are too big for any one person to solve. But that’s exactly why institutions like UNESCO must take the lead. They have a responsibility to convene the brightest minds who are willing to challenge established norms and explore new solutions. And I’m proud to have contributed to making this happen! 😊
Daron's lecture on "Can Technological Progress Build Shared Prosperity?" resonated deeply with my studies in International Development at PSIA - Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po. While AI and technology offer great potential benefits, they also risk exacerbating inequality if controlled by only a few. Acemoglu highlighted the critical need for oversight to prevent these advancements from deepening economic divides and threatening democracy.

https://lnkd.in/gcMqgqze This is the full interview at India Foundation with Come Carpentier. Discussed, in this interview, is the nature of education that transforms individuals and, therefore, society to create well-being and avoid social and economic problems (crime, terror, war, social strife, recessions etc.). What is the approach of ancient wisdom that can use the current curriculum and apply it to achieve this objective? An example shared here uses Harvard Business Schools' eminent Prof Michael Porter's ingredients of business strategy. These ingredients are merged with ancient Indian wisdom's ideas of strategy of living life. When strategy of work emerges from the strategy of life, it removes conflict. When conflict is removed within human beings it leads to individual well-being. When all individuals, through education, experience well-being society, too, will experience it. This is the approach of the Well-Being curriculum offered by the author as in his books and in the two courses offered on the Ministry of Education, Government of India website. UNESCO 2030 Education Agenda has accepted his submission.
Great content through this link about the #2023Nobellaureates in physics, chemistry, medicine and economic, gathered at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden. Amazing discoveries and achievements by the way.
Do you know about #Nobelprize and how it works? Is there a standard number of laureates each and every year?
Is there any age range in the requirements? Because in this video sounds like there are only senior profiles...
Are there some targeted nationalities? Because in this video as a sample, we only have Americans and Europeans...
Don't we need this kind of settlement in Africa?
This makes us reflect.
