Fantastic to hear that our State of the System research into the needs and wellbeing of children and young people with cancer has gone global! 🌏 Our report - created with Young Lives vs Cancer Teenage Cancer Trust Ellen MacArthur Foundation and Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) - identifies the gaps in #cancer support and areas which need vital transformation so that every child and young person facing cancer receives care that’s tailored to them. This report combined #evidence, including the lived experience of more than 1,500 young people and families, to provide the foundation for groundbreaking solutions and inform decisions that achieve greater outcomes for young people and their families affected by cancer.   #cancer #care #research #evidence #youngpeople #family #mentalhealth #wellbeing #support #systems #systemthinking #systemschange

It's #RareCancerDay! TargetCancer Foundation (TCF) works to advance the development of more effective and personalized treatments for people like me with rare cancers. Fun facts about patients facing #rarecancers: - There is often no established stand of care (treatment plan) for rare cancers (there are no FDA-approved options for #ocularmelanoma based on my genetic markers) - Doctors may lack expertise and experience with their specific type of rare cancer (I live in Denver, CO and we don't have any oncologists focusing solely on ocular melanoma) - Drug approvals favor larger patient populations, and rare cancers are often left behind - #clinicaltrials, which may offer opportunities for effective treatment, are often lacking in rare cancers - Rare cancers generally receive less attention from major funding sources - Smaller patient populations lead to difficulty in clinical trial recruitment Thank you, Kristen Palma & Jim Palma, for all you are doing to make things better for rare patients!

There are some very much needed programs during this Global Cancer Week. Among the session that have captured my attention are 1.The global cancer workforce in crisis: how to reverse a threatening trend, build capacities and promote equity, which is a needed discussion on how we can promote Youth inclusion in building a cancer workforce. 2. From policy to practice: Transforming cancer care in Africa by implementing guideline-concordant care, 3. Cancer Health Disparities: Tackling the inequalities conundrum. 4. Impact of climate change in cancer care: experiences around the globe. We cannot fight cancer without taking climate change into play and considerations by Cancer Trials Ireland 5. Investing in Cancer Prevention and Control in Low-and Middle-Income Countries including Small Island Developing States: A Strategic Multi-Country Dialogue. from The Commonwealth 6. Cancer Moonshot 2.0: win-win collaborations extending the Cancer Moonshot globally leveraging technology/AI.
