With the recent remarkable surge in production of UAS and an estimated 6.5 million units by 2030, UAS will soon vastly outnumber manned aircraft, which in the United States alone includes more than 45,000 flights daily. These escalating numbers represent a threat to both aviation safety and security and pose increased hazards to persons and property on the surface. Bingen, Washington - Airbus has finalized its acquisition of U.S.-based Aerovel aircraft and its unmanned aerial system (UAS), Flexrotor, as part of its strategic expansion in the field of tactical unmanned solutions. The Flexrotor UAS is a small tactical unmanned aircraft designed for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions, both at sea and over land. The acquisition comes at a time when many armed forces and public agencies worldwide are exploring the use of unmanned aerial systems to enhance their intelligence and surveillance capabilities. The Flexrotor, known for its vertical takeoff and landing capabilities, aligns with Airbus's strategy to broaden its UAS offerings. Together with the VSR700, Airbus aims to further develop manned-unmanned teaming to provide customers with enhanced mission capabilities for monitoring and safeguarding communities and critical infrastructure, while also preserving essential assets such as helicopters. 🌊 Paving the way for safer seas: key milestones in the rMCM program The rMCM program marks a significant leap forward in Mine Countermeasures capabilities for the Belgian and Royal Netherlands Navies. Vertical Aviation International (VAI) has released key recommendations for integrating unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) into U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration National Airspace. VAI emphasizes that BVLOS operations should maintain current airspace safety standards while enabling UAS to achieve their potential.
