Today, Sentient is the only nonprofit, nonpartisan news outlet dedicated to telling the whole story about factory farms, and we’ve got our work cut out for us. This year, we were there for readers, listeners, journalists and newsrooms to make sure the effects of factory farming on climate change, public health and the animals could no longer be a footnote. The role of nonprofit, nonpartisan media in holding power to account and debunking disinformation is more important than ever before. And with your support, factory farms will no longer operate in the dark.

This week At Rotary: We welcome Alice Morrison, the Co-Executive Director of Policy and Development for Friends of Family Farmers (FoFF). Friends of Family Farmers was conceived to promote and protect socially responsible agriculture in Oregon. This non-profit organization was founded in the summer of 2005 and has been advocating for small to mid-sized farms ever since. Alice's topic this Tuesday will be: The case for small farms and the impact of your community food system. When it comes to food, why should we buy local? There is a lot of information floating around about the benefits of small farms, local food systems, and organic practices. But what does it all mean, what really makes a difference, and how do you know something is the real deal? Get the answers to these questions and learn about vital programs to help small growers from Friends of Family Farmers. Tuesday at Noon Graduate Eugene Zoom: https://lnkd.in/gJZqvNQn

Today might be Black Friday – but Giving Tuesday is coming up on Tuesday, December 3, and you have a chance to make an impact with a gift to EcoHealth Alliance. EcoHealth Alliance’s scientists work globally to protect wild places and to understand and prevent the transmission of zoonotic diseases. Amongst other accomplishments, our scientists: - Discovered the animal hosts of lethal viruses such as SARS-CoV-1, Nipah, and MERS, as well as the conditions that facilitate their spread - Developed a forecasting tool that predicts the emergence of certain diseases in southern Africa based on climate patterns, benefitting agricultural communities - Quantified the health benefits of protected and Indigenous-managed forests in Brazil, compared to the negative health impacts of deforestation Thanks to a generous gift, all donations will be matched 1:1 up to $150,000 – can we count on your support? https://lnkd.in/e35CBkEp
