This #AntimicrobialResistance (AMR) Week, we’re highlighting important research into the intersection of microplastics and antimicrobial resistance, through Emily Stevenson's collaborative PhD project with the University of Exeter and Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML). The project investigates how microplastics in aquatic environments act as vectors, spreading antibiotic-resistant bacteria and impacting both human and animal health. The project is supported by strong partnerships with organisations like Beach Guardian and the UK House of Lords, ensuring that the research directly contributes to both community conservation and policy development. With outreach events, beach cleans, and workshops at schools, the project has engaged thousands, raising awareness about marine conservation and the links between plastic pollution and AMR. This work has helped bridge the gap between academia and community engagement, driving both environmental and social change! Today, we celebrate International Day of Plant Health, recognizing the crucial role that healthy plants play in sustaining life on Earth. Plants provide us with oxygen, food, medicine, and habitat for countless species. However, they face numerous threats, including pests, diseases, and climate change. On this day, let's raise awareness about the importance of plant health and the actions we can take to protect it. By practicing sustainable agriculture, preventing the spread of invasive species, and supporting plant conservation efforts, we can safeguard our crops, forests, and ecosystems. Let's also acknowledge the vital role of plant health professionals, researchers, and farmers who work tirelessly to keep our plants healthy. Together, let's commit to preserving the health and diversity of plant life for the well-being of our planet and future generations. #PlantHealth #SustainableAgriculture #ProtectOurPlants 🌱🌿🌍
