How Carbon Financing is Funding Conservation and Empowering Communities We’re excited to share the latest episode of the ClimeCo Podcast, where we dive into how carbon financing is transforming conservation while creating opportunities for local communities. In this episode, Stuart Pimm and Luis Mazariegos explore how carbon financing is being used to fund the purchase of degraded land and the planting of native trees to create essential wildlife corridors in Colombia's Western Andes. These corridors reconnect fragmented habitats, protect biodiversity, and support species like migratory birds and hummingbirds. Beyond conservation, this initiative is also about people. We’re working closely with local communities to create sustainable economic opportunities, including empowering women to take on leadership roles in reforestation and conservation. Together, we’re protecting nature while fostering social and economic progress. Carbon financing goes beyond reducing emissions—it’s an investment in restoring ecosystems, addressing climate change, and advancing environmental and social goals. Companies seeking to achieve ESG targets can learn how projects like this deliver measurable impact. 🎧 Listen now to learn more and join the conversation at https://lnkd.in/eur-ASeW #CarbonFinancing #TreePlanting #SavingNature #WildlifeCorridors #Biodiversity #ESGInvesting #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #CorporateSustainability #NatureBasedSolutions #Reforestation #CommunityEngagement #EmpoweringWomen #SocialImpact #ClimateChangeMitigation

There is a huge opportunity in carbon markets, but more trust is needed! 🌿 One of the key takeaways from last week's discussion on opportunities and advancements of voluntary carbon markets with Tarmo Virki on NatureBacked podcast series is the necessity for trust. 🎙️ However, this doesn't mean trusting blindly in the projects and solutions available. The voluntary carbon markets space is complex, with various methodologies, projects, and nuances. Navigating this market requires investing time in learning and understanding to avoid getting lost or overwhelmed to see and recognise impact and potential. For more insights, listen to the podcast episode below. 👇 PS! If you're not familiar with the NatureBacked newsletter and podcast hosted by the superb journalist and storyteller Tarmo Virki, with a keen focus on climate and sustainability, now might be the time to correct this error. ✨ With Anete Garoza #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #1MTN #Uganda

New Innovation Forum podcast – How US family-owned forests can unlock carbon solutions. Nathan Truitt, executive vice president for climate and funding at the American Forest Foundation, talks with me about the crucial role of family-owned forests in North America's carbon sequestration efforts. We explore how effective forest management can significantly increase carbon absorption, the complexities faced by small landowners, and the potential of voluntary carbon markets in financing sustainable forest practices. Plus: most companies fall short on climate targets, according to the Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) Initiative; two in five UK companies now prioritising net zero transition; investors urged to protect biodiversity-rich areas; and, Verra reinstates Cambodian REDD+ project after human rights review, in the news digest. https://lnkd.in/eC67ywiM

🎙️ The latest episode of our podcast, How Could We?, features Daniel Zimmer from EIT Climate-KIC, who just returned from COP16, the UN Biodiversity Summit in Colombia! In this episode, we discuss: 🟢 The urgent need for finance for biodiversity: Daniel explains that the estimated $700 billion needed for biodiversity conservation by 2030 must reach local communities, as only 10-20% of current funding makes an impact on the ground. 🟢 The agriculture vs. conservation tension: With rising agricultural demands – especially driven by increasing meat consumption, its impact on ecosystems intensifies. We discuss how to address this critical challenge. 🟢 The importance to design equitable value chains, to ensure that local communities receive a fair share of the benefits derived from their landscapes. 🎧 Listen now on: Spotify: https://spoti.fi/4fwLk5M Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3AEWBls Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/4fzzFD2 YouTube: https://bit.ly/3UE11zZ or wherever you get your podcasts. No future without nature based solutions in farming
Alain PEETERS really hits the nail on the head: moving to a nature-based, regenerative, and resilient food system isn’t just a good idea... it’s absolutely essential! The 'green revolution' was fueled by cheap fossil energy, but we've pushed that system to its limits. Not only is fossil energy becoming scarcer and more costly—making it increasingly tough for farmers to maintain their operations—but we’re also grappling with the fallout of its intensive use: depleted soils, collapsing biodiversity, and rising temperatures, to name just a few issues. #Agroecology not only helps us adapt to these changes but also mitigates the impacts of climate change. We need to make this shift as quickly as possible. Catch the full discussion on the Deep Seed podcast (find the link in the comments below) 🎧 A big shout out to our podcast partner: Soil Capital 🌱 Much love, Raphael
