We were delighted to spend a morning in the ITT department at ARU Peterborough. We really enjoyed exploring the amazing facilities, meeting some of the ITT staff and being part of one of the sessions. We had some fabulous conversations with ITT students who have recently finished their first ITAP and were so impressed with their knowledge of current research and thoughts on early reading and phonics. With such thoughtful and committed trainees we left incredibly hopeful for the future of teaching and excited that some of these amazing people may be working in our schools again soon. Thank you Karen Tozer & Lauren Cox (Kirk) for your time and for letting us observe your sessions.

In my segment with CNA on the PSLE marking process, I shared in detail how we look out for our students' conceptual understanding in awarding them marks for the PSLE papers. There is no over emphasis on the use of keywords in the marking scheme or as a practice by teachers. Though the video has been positively well received by most, there are still some in our community who are skeptical of the marking process insisting that we only look out for keywords and that our students will be heavily penalised for the lack of its use. I am clear that as a whole, our education system wants to honour our students and assess based on the understanding that has been conveyed, especially in high stakes exams such as the PSLE. I am convinced that over time, as the assessment literacy of our fraternity becomes more savvy, we will be able to shape our future generations to view learning not as knowledge and keywords to regurgitate but as ideas and concepts to build on for the betterment of themselves as wholesome contributors to society. https://lnkd.in/g5p8WBCm.

After meeting so many lovely prospective students at our open day recently, I have been thinking a lot about admissions requirements. It's a difficult area; if you look at the attached image of the RCVS theoretical base for day one competences, you can see how hard it is to really assess whether a prospective student is a good fit for both the course and the career. We can only evaluate potential after all. The questions I've been ruminating on is: What are the obligations of vet schools towards prospective students? How can our selection process evaluate capacity for reflective relationships, emotional intelligence, or sustainable engagement? I know vet schools around the world are asking the same questions and trying to develop systems that are robust, fair, and inclusive. There probably isn't a perfect system, but what could we maybe do differently?

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗜𝗥𝗖𝗖 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗗𝗟𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿/𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 IRCC has introduced a temporary policy for students transferring to a new Designated Learning Institution (DLI) for the 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Students who meet the following conditions can begin their studies at a new DLI while their study permit extension is being processed: 1️⃣ The student has been accepted into a DLI for the Winter or Spring 2025 semester. 2️⃣ The student has applied for a study permit extension. 3️⃣ The current study permit is still valid and does not include the DLI name printed on it. 4️⃣ The student continues to meet all conditions of their existing study permit. This change allows students to transfer institutions and begin their programs without delays, ensuring continuity in their education while their application for a permit extension is under review.

As we look back on the success of the BASE programme, it’s clear that our work with the Department for Education (DfE) has made a tangible difference. With over 20,000 students impacted and 590 teachers engaged, we have helped FE practitioners across the North East, Yorkshire, and Humberside improve outcomes in Maths and English for students aged 16-19 who hadn’t yet achieved Level 2 in these core subjects. The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting how the programme has supported both teachers and learners to build confidence and academic self-efficacy. What do you see as the key to improving outcomes for students in FE? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments 👇 #FE #Education #StudentOutcomes #LearningImpact #BuildingSelfEfficacy #EducationTech
