Coca-Cola HBC’s Innovative Winter-PV Solar Installation in the Mountains of Switzerland ☀️❄️ This 122.42 kWp system on top of Coca-Cola's VALSER bottling plant in Switzerland showcases a unique approach by using vertical, bifacial panels to maximize energy production in snowy regions. At an altitude of 1250 meters, this site experiences a lot of heavy snowfall, potentially reducing efficiency if panels were installed in a traditional design. Choosing a 90-degree vertical panel for this installation then, tackled 2 main challenges: 1; Allows snow to slide off, preventing build-up and ensuring optimal energy production. 2; Better utilization of the "albedo," (the reflective properties of snow), for more potential energy gain. That's interesting. How is the PV production efficiency so far? Isn't sunrise/sunset hours causing the panels to start shading each other?

Has the idea of having heated panels for winter use been researched? Where I live (mid Sweden) the panels need to be mounted at the same angle as the roof of the house, and our weather shifts a lot in temperature during the winter wich creates crazy buildup of snow and ice on the panels, in order to make use of the panels the snow/ice needs to be removed because the sun cannot do the job on the short winter days in Sweden.

I'm going to guess the shading isn't a major concern considering this is a winter innovation. I assume they're relying heavily on surrounding reflection, paired with the fact they're bi-facial.

3moIsn't ideal tilt angle latitude minus 10 degrees? I don't know how far north Switzerland is, but this doesn't look right. The rows are very close and the modules are nearly vertical. How is there not a major shading issue at a northern latitude in this picture? The sun will be very low in the sky for most months. I must be missing something here.
