"Lead Quality: Why It’s More Important Than Quantity for Manufacturing Lead quality versus quantity—you’ve probably heard this debate more times than you can count. The reality is that, as a manufacturer, you need a certain volume of leads to keep your sales pipeline flowing. But how do you strike the right balance? How do you make sure those leads aren’t just numbers but opportunities that actually convert? EPRI has been awarded a $2 million grant by the California Energy Commission to demonstrate scalable, community-based virtual power plants (#VPPs) for commercial buildings! This project will increase integration of customer-sited renewables and electric vehicles, and build load demand flexibility to help #California meet its climate and clean energy goals. EPRI, in collaboration with Los Angeles Unified School District, Southern California Edison (SCE), Edo, Brotherhood Crusade, Kliewer and Associates, LLC, and New Buildings Institute, will install an interoperable energy management system at two LAUSD sites, aimed to overcome market barriers through an interoperable energy management system. “Load flexibility is becoming increasingly important as more electric vehicles, heat pumps, wind, and solar come online as part of the #cleanenergy transition,” said EPRI Vice President of Electrification and Sustainable Energy Strategy David Porter. “This project offers significant potential to increase demand flexibility in the commercial space, and could be eventually replicated for residential needs, benefitting consumers as part of an affordable and reliable clean energy future.” 📰 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eEhvE_K9

The data center industry in the UK is growing quickly, spurred by the rising need for digital infrastructure. In a Property Week article, Diarmaid Connolly, who is the Director of Cost Management at Linesight, emphasizes the importance of strategic planning and investment to tackle these challenges. He suggests that the UK could benefit from the Nordic countries' emphasis on renewable energy and effective power management to create a sustainable and expandable future for its data centers. ⚡ On behalf of DG Comp, we led on a workshop on demand response in European markets. This workshop is a key part of the study ´Barriers for demand response participation in electricity markets and State aid support´.⚡ Over 300 stakeholders and eight panelists participated in the workshop, highlighting the importance of demand response in building a sustainable energy market. We aim to support the European Commission to increase participation in demand response and address the challenges of the market. The workshop was an opportunity: 👉 For DG Comp to share the latest updates on policy developments. 👉 To update stakeholders on preliminary findings from the study. 👉 To gather feedback on early recommendations to increase resilience in the market. Thank you to our consortium partners BIP and Grimaldi Alliance for their invaluable contributions to the workshop. 📑 We look forward to sharing our final report from the study in the coming months. 📑 #DemandResponse #ElectricityMarkets #EUCompetition #EuropeanCommission #EUStateAid #EnergyMarket #EUSurveyDR #StakeholdersWorkshop

Rho Motion Live: North America 2024 | 2nd & 3rd October What opportunities exist for grid storage projects beyond California and Texas? To date, the US storage market has been dominated by just a handful of states. This is led by California and Texas, with two states making up over 70% of installed grid storage in 2023, a result of their strong progress in solar and support structures. However, there is plenty of opportunity elsewhere in the US and we continue to see more projects announced beyond these two markets. Ohio, the location of the Rho Motion Live US 2024, sits within the PJM Interconnection, one of the world’s largest competitive wholesale electricity markets. Our BESS session at this event will explore some of the challenges facing the market in this region and across North America more broadly, as well as the role of building a domestic supply chain to support this fast-evolving industry. On Thursday 26th, I participated in a Panel Discussion as part of the Future Energy Summit at the University of Strathclyde’s Technology and Innovation Centre, an initial event presenting recommendations from the University’s collaboration with Scottish Power Energy Networks, Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks and the Energy Systems Operator. Some great insights provided by Sir Jim McDonald and Ofgem’s Steven McMahon, before hearing about the outputs from the collaborative work from Prof Colin Bell and then highly participative panel sessions and great input from Phil Beach of EU Skills. Like other industrial sectors - attracting, developing and retaining the future workforce is an increasing challenge and with the massive investment in Energy Transmission & Distribution infrastructure over next 10 years, one that’s critical to the Scottish and UK Economy. A good range of action-oriented verbs in the recommendations – Align, Define, Create, Identify, Engage, Advocate, Attract, Explore & Communicate and broad agreement and commitment to develop a strong programme of work. But this will require a genuine national response, co-ordination and investment across the Public, Private and Education & Training Sector. The formal report is to follow.

Hip, hip hooray for my old friend Sheldon Kimber and Intersect Power for their front page profile in the Wall Street Journal by Amrith Ramkumar. Important notes: - the author concludes with a smart observation, the industry's heavy reliance on lithium (my insert: Chinese sourced finished batteries and/or Chinese sourced battery materials) will break as US sourced non-lithium alternatives mature and are a better fit for maximizing value to owners and the community (Enzinc, Noon Energy, florrent, Renewell Energy, Relectrify and more) - clean economy developers and traditional energy finance are actively working together to win (good start but much more needed, Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners Deutsche Bank HPS Investment Partners, LLC Cerberus Capital Management) - the Inflation Reduction Act aligns financial interests - this wise use of tax payer revenue unlocks massive deployment of energy storage + solar - having vast amounts of large and small scale energy storage in an interconnected grid environment supports hardening the grid from falling down during increasingly frequent extreme weather events - ultimately with continued high volume deployment and operation of solar and/or wind + energy storage + balanced in the gaps with decarbonized natural gas (Modern Hydrogen), energy customers will have lower energy rates Kudos also to rPlus Energies, Eos Energy Enterprises, Inc.
