EBRD Finances 10 MW Solar Plant in Tunisia’s Feriana Region. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is financing the construction of a 10 MW solar plant in the Feriana region of Tunisia. The financing package includes a €3.9 million (about $4.2 milllion) loan from EBRD and up to €1 million (about $1.08 million) in concessional funding from Finland through the EBRD’s High Impact Partnership on Climate Action. The funds will be allocated to Centrale Solaire Feriana B, a special-purpose vehicle owned by European renewables developer Qair. This investment is part of EBRD's broader efforts in Tunisia, which has invested over €2.2 billion (about $2.3 billion) in 70 projects since 2012. Aida Sitdikova, EBRD’s Director and Head of Energy Eurasia MEA, highlighted Tunisia's strong potential for wind and solar resources and the importance of this investment in diversifying the energy mix and developing privately owned renewable energy. Eric Boutemy, Qair Group Tunisia's director, stated that the project will support Tunisia’s goal of achieving 30% renewable energy production by the decade's end. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), as of last year, Tunisia had deployed 506 MW of solar energy, up from 197 MW at the end of 2022. #EBRD #SolarEnergy #RenewableEnergy #Tunisia #Feriana #ClimateAction #Qair #Finland #CleanEnergy #SustainableDevelopment #EnergyTransition Photo: A Photovoltaic olar Plant in Tataouine, Tunisia | Eni.

Two energy initiatives have been declared Agenda 2063 flagship projects, marking a significant step towards Africa's energy goals. The adoption of the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM) and its Continental Power Systems Masterplan (CMP) signals #Africa's commitment to affordable and accessible electricity. These initiatives will create the world's largest electricity market by 2040, providing reliable power to 1.3 billion people. With support from the European Union Global Gateway Strategy and the Africa European Union Green Energy Initiative, these projects will co-create a harmonised, well inter-connected and competitive continental African electricity market delivering secure, reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity services. As we continue to play our part in increasing energy access in Africa, we are encouraged by such partnerships that Africa can soon attain energy independence. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/d3qW9jAZ #JCG #EnergyAccess #Energyindependence

I had the opportunity to attend the National Transmission Company of South Africa’s (NTCSA) Transmission Development Plan (TDP) public forum today. The TDP is central to ensuring South Africa’s transition towards a sustainable energy future. With plans to expand the grid by 14,000 km and add 122,000 MVA of transformer capacity over the next decade, the TDP is crucial for unlocking the potential of renewable energy projects that are currently constrained by grid limitations. This ambitious plan, backed by R112 billion in investment, will not only support some 30 GW of new capacity over the next five years but also create opportunities for collaboration with the private sector to ensure we meet the country’s growing energy needs. Proconics NewFields delivers infrastructure projects such as these to enable the just energy future. Attending this forum allowed us to engage with NTCSA and partners in the industry to better understand the country’s plans and share ideas on how to effectively execute these plans. #EnergyTransition #TDP #NTCSA #RenewableEnergy #SouthAfrica #GridExpansion
