Sweden has officially inaugurated its first large-scale agrivoltaic park, marking a major step toward integrating renewable energy with sustainable agriculture. The 6MW park, developed by Svea Solar, spans 13 hectares and produces electricity for a local vertical farming company while allowing crops like rapeseed, ley, and wheat to grow beneath the solar panels. This project highlights the potential of agrivoltaics to support clean energy and local food production. Agrivoltaics vs. conventional solar parks ⚖ Agri-photovoltaics. The simultaneous utilisation of land for agricultural crop production and electricity generation using photovoltaic systems. A term that is currently on everyone's lips. ❓ But how does the yield of agrivoltaics systems differ from conventional solar parks? 💡 We clarify: With a conventional ground-mounted PV system, this is clear: 0% agricultural produce and 100% solar energy generation on the area. With agrivoltaics, things get more exciting: Compared to full utilisation of the area for solar or agriculture, an Agri-PV system can generate approx. 60% solar energy yield plus 70% agricultural produce. 💪🏽 A win-win situation for agriculture and renewable energies. 💚 Despite this, it should be noted that disadvantaged areas are initially considered for the construction of solar parks (e.g. along motorways, conversion areas, etc.).
