How far can a cow's sense of smell reach? Is it 500 feet? Maybe 1.5 miles? Or even 3 miles? What if I told you, it's equivalent to the length of 110 football fields lined up end-to-end? That's right, cows can detect odors up to six miles away! Working at Dairy Farmers of America, I've learned that this extraordinary ability isn't just a defense mechanism, it's also how they know when our farmer-owners are approaching with pockets full of treats (and they love their treats). It's one of the many ways herds connect with their farmers! #DFAEmployee #CowFacts #FunFacts #DairyIndustry #DairyFarming #DairyFacts

My clients have consistently asked how the contraction in #cattle supplies will impact pricing. While inventory of cattle and calves on January 1, 2024, was 2% below last year and lowest January 1 inventory since 1951. However, a deeper dive of cattle on feed January 1, 2024, was 11.9 million head, 2% above last year. Q4 on feed numbers outpaced last year, above expectations. Kicked the can down the road. Signals to the industry that there are enough animals to meet demand for the next 4-6 months. #cattle #beef #analysis
