Role confusion. What is it when it pertains to adult children who suddenly find themselves needing to understand the healthcare system? When an adult child must suddenly act as a healthcare professional for their aging parent in crisis, it intensifies emotional strain and role confusion. They shift from the familiar role of a son or daughter to that of a healthcare professional, facing tough decisions, emotional turmoil, and blurred boundaries. This shift disrupts normal family dynamics, leading to isolation and burnout. Balancing caregiving with professional responsibilities requires careful navigation of boundaries and support from both within and outside the family. Listen to how role confusion disrupted my life after my son had an accident. If you struggle with role confusion, don't feel like you have to go it alone. 🤔 The Frustrations of Living with a Disability: Seeing GPs and Specialists Many people who have a chronic health condition or disability most likely have to see a doctor regularly. The constant need to get support and advice from health professionals is a source of stress for many people. General Practitioners (GPs) are usually the first point of call for anyone who needs medical assistance. This means that people with disability or life-long medical conditions are reliant on the health system and other support services. The experience is even more frustrating for patients who are referred to specialist doctors and allied health professionals by their GP. There is a need for GPs to assess and refer people to other providers. The details of patients as well as a holistic approach are often lost in the sea of administration and referrals needed to get things done. The current system and arrangements are intended for medical professionals to work together to treat their patient. However, effective cooperation between patient health professionals can often fail and means that patients are not able to get the best health outcome. #healthcare #frustrations #peoplewithdisability #chronicconditions #supports
