The Stunning, DOXA SUB 300T 1200m Professional. For those that know, it comes as no surprise that DOXA were one of the major players in diving watch development. Indeed, it was DOXA that developed the helium escape valve with Rolex; DOXA was also the first company to feature this valve on a dive watch available to the general public. I could go on and on, but that's for another time. If a watch migrates from your wrist unintentionally, the humble spring-bar is normally the culprit. That's why diver's normally go for NATO or ZULU straps, because they offer two bites at the cherry, so to speak; they also give better adjustment over divesuits. Many will know of my background as a Toolmaker, and this, combined with my love of watches, makes modifications relatively simple. I found the DOXA spring-bars a little underwhelming, so I took the opportunity to get the gear out and make a few changes. the original DOXA bars were 20mm x 1,8mm dia., with a spigot dia. of 0,9mm. I decided to fit Rolex Submariner spring-bars, they are 20mm x 2mm dia., with a spigot dia. of 1,1mm. The quality of the Rolex bars is obvious when placed next to the others. The work involved machining out the 'beads of rice' bracelet, along with the end-links to a dia. of 2,05mm. The spring-bar spigots were then reduced to 0,9mm dia. in order to fit the case. The astute among you may think that nothing has been gained by keeping the spigot diameters the same, but that is far from the case! My article on spring-bars explains this in more detail for those that may be interested. The upper flanks of the case were then polished, and the black line between the inner and outer bezel markings removed. The inner 'brushed' part of the bezel ring was then polished (two grades down from the outer bezel polish, to match the flank grade). Before everything was put back together, the movement was checked and regulated; it now runs at 0.1 beat error and, under normal wear holds +1 sec./day. All of my watches get used...
