In my experience, the desire for a more strategic HR role is a common aspiration among HR Business Partners. However, my advice is to delve deeper into your current situation before embarking on the journey to secure a strategic role. ❓Does your company lack strategic objectives? ❓Is someone blocking your contribution? ❓Is the industry purely transactional by nature? ❓Does your company understand the true value of HR? ❓Is the company purely bottom-line thinking? Why? Its important to delve into these area's, rather than just thinking there is a magical strategic path out there for you to take. HR is inherently operational and realistically there are very few purely strategic positions. But the good news is that there are strategic opportunities everywhere, whether its through contributing through the design of a new initiative or project, or working with a key stakeholder to understand and problem solve a key challenge. Is there scope to make your role more strategic with a change of approach? Its a good question to ask yourself, but it's also important to understand that you could just be in the wrong company, industry, or reporting into the wrong person, so if you are looking for a new role it's important to have an open mind when reviewing job descriptions, so its not always about looking for lots of strategic responsibilities on a JD. Working in a similar HRBP role to your current role, but in a different company / industry or just reporting into someone else might just give you the scope you desire. Food for thought!

HR pros - Here's the BRUTAL TRUTH about your title. In 2025, it matters. BIG TIME! And here's WHY... 👉 It tells you if your company is fully invested in you. For example… If you're in an HR Manager job, but you're called a Senior HR Officer , here's what this likely means: 👉 1--It signals that they are not all-in on your value. 👉 2--You're almost certainly being underpaid. 👉 3--If they have to replace you externally, there is a 100% chance they'll pay your replacement more, and a 99% chance they'll give them the Director title. 👉 4--If you're in the job market (all other factors equal) a Director title will likely earn you higher offers than a Sr. Manager title will. THE POINT: Don't let anyone tell you that HR job titles don't matter. Titles not only determine your role but your influence in your organization. 👉 So, in your negotiations, whether it's for a new job or an internal promotion, take the extra time to negotiate the BEST TITLE you can get. Yes, the discussion may be awkward, but the benefits will endure. The point: Know your value...especially in 2025! Just my take. What's yours?

I love my job. I enjoy the satisfaction of seeing the lightbulb moment someone has when you have been coaching them through something they’ve been finding difficult. I love it when there is a tricky legal matter and you have to unpick it and work out the best possible route. I particularly love empowering my managers to do their job, finding their confidence to have these difficult conversations and then seeing them grow into their roles and even moving into bigger and better things. But the (occasional) manager is never interested in hearing about all of this as soon as they hear the answer from the post below. Don’t become a manager or leader, if you think we do all the ‘HR stuff’. Simples 😎
HR Consultant, helping you solve your people issues and get the best from your employees. Friendly, straight-talking, outsourced HR. Call me on 07917 275828 for a no obligation chat about your HR needs.
Most of my HR colleagues will recognise this scenario: Manager: Hello HR person - something is really bothering me about my team member and I would like things to change. HR person: Ok - what have you done about it yourself, so far? Manager: Oh, nothing! I'd like you to go and speak to them for me and make them behave differently. HR person: OK. I can advise you on how to handle that conversation but I'm not going to have it for you. That would be your job, as the manager. Manager: Ok - we will just leave it then. HR person: ***BAFFLED*** 😕 🤨 🫨 Click "like" if you have experienced this yourself in your time working in an HR role.

Let's Discuss HR! Human resources, or HR, departments often have a variety of job types and titles. The variety and ranking of HR positions can be confusing if you have little experience with the field. If you're interested in an HR career, however, it's important to know what jobs you might qualify for or get promoted to as you progress in your career. In this article, i'll explain the hierarchy of HR job titles and how to advance in an HR career path. What is HR? Human resources, or HR, is the department within a company responsible for the hiring and development of its employees. A company's HR staff manages all payroll, benefits and administrative tasks for employees. They also handle employee relations and resolve conflicts. Human resources departments are important because they help a company increase productivity while also maintaining employee satisfaction. Other reasons HR departments are important to include: 1. Setting competitive salary and benefits plans to attract talented employees. 2. Providing employees with a safe place to work by ensuring that the company follows occupational safety and health rules. 3. Resolving workplace issues between employees and employers. 4. Organizing orientation and training for new and existing hires. 5. Assessing employees’ job satisfaction and ways to improve it. 6. Creating a smooth process for recruiting, evaluating, interviewing and hiring skilled individuals. 7. Making sure the company follows employment laws. Businesses in all industries often hire a variety of HR professionals to meet these responsibilities. Bigger companies typically require a larger HR department with more specialized positions than smaller companies. HR job hierarchy Human resources departments often build a hierarchy of jobs, each level containing employees who may support others or perform specialized duties. This ranking helps ensure the department operates smoothly and meets the company’s personnel needs. Here's a list of human resources job levels a company might have: a. Lower- or entry-level HR jobs b. Mid-level HR jobs c. Senior-level HR jobs d. Specialized HR positions #humanresources #humanreaourcesmanagement #hrm #hr #business #hrforum #hrseminar #hrmanager
