This week we visited our supplier Rodepa Plastics of the depaauw sustainable resources group. During our meeting, we engaged in a highly interesting discussion about the latest developments and trends in mechanical recycling. In particular, the practice of subjecting all materials to an incoming and outgoing inspection and carrying out the final approval in their own laboratory made a strong impression. These initiatives not only contribute to promoting the circular economy but also align with Jokey’s goals in the use of sustainable plastics. Many thanks for the insightful conversation! #jokey #JokeySE #sustainableplastics #circulareconomy #recycling #Rodepaplastics #depaauw #sustainableresources

So, last Friday, Kathryn Brant and I checked out the Corby recycling centre and honestly, I was blown away by the lengths the team go to break down and recover materials. From mechanical methods, to hands-on dismantling, to picking recyclables, it was clear they’re all about keeping materials in circulation. Plus, you could really feel the pride from the MRF manager - it was contagious! There's a growing trend of our manufacturing customers seeking something similar on their sites and lots can be learned from the Corby team. Every day, I’m just more and more impressed with how Biffa is impacting the circular economy and squeezing every bit of value out of the materials we get. #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #ResourceManagement

We are shown on the Nasdaq Tower on Times Square! With Pierre-Yves Paslier, the co-founder of Notpla, my favorite environmental startup! Notpla invented a seaweed alternative to plastic, that is even edible! They have won just about every award possible. Having been part of Notpla’s journey for 6 years has been so much fun! The takeout boxes in the photo, of course, are not edible like some other Notpla products, but the seaweed lining in them is free of plastic or polluting chemicals. It will naturally biodegrade like fruit peel and will not contaminate the recycling if it gets into the recycling stream. Did you know that takeout boxes are usually lined with plastic or chemicals to prevent leaking, even if they look like cardboard? And that these chemicals prevent recycling? And that these chemicals leach into our bodies when we eat? #Notpla #plastic #Climateweek Reaction

The plastic packaging industry is at a turning point, which requires a push for change. We at Faerch Group believe that this change requires educational efforts, cross-value chain collaboration, and the promotion of innovative solutions, coupled with a willingness to take risks to help the industry achieve circularity in food packaging. 🌍♻️ Aron Damen, Director of Cirrec and a recognised PET recycling specialist, shared his views recently at the Plastics Recycling Show Europe event on advancing circularity in the tray sector to keep valuable resources within the loop and out of the environment🌱. He discussed the drivers and enablers for circular recycling and explained how tray-to-tray recycling has been achieved at Faerch. Damen also highlighted what to expect with the latest investments in establishing a second tray line in our Duiven facility, which has tripled our internal recycling capacity to manage 60,000 tonnes of tray feedstock from post-consumer waste. Did you know? Cirrec is a PET tray recycling facility integrated into Faerch, which enables circularity in food packaging at industrial scale already today. This is just the beginning of a common journey towards true circularity in food packaging. Stay tuned for more to come! 🌟 #TraytotrayRecycling #PETRecyclingSpecialist #CircularRecycling #TrueCircularityinFoodPackaging

Happy to make the switch to tethered caps! As part of our commitment to sustainability and our ambition to expand into the EU market, this change aligns with the new EU regulations to reduce plastic waste. ♻️ While bottle caps are recyclable, they often become separated from the bottle, leading to several issues. Caps can easily be lost or littered, ending up in oceans and waterways, where they pose a threat to marine life. 🌊 Additionally, when caps are discarded separately, they are more likely to be missed in the recycling process, reducing overall recycling efficiency. With tethered caps, we ensure the cap stays attached to the bottle, preventing unnecessary litter and making recycling more effective. This small design change will help minimise plastic waste and keep our environment cleaner. 🌍
A bottle from our latest production batch! ió is now sporting a tethered cap for improved recyclability. 💧 #IOFibrewater #Recycle

Waste-to-energy (WtE) is an ingenious process that converts waste into usable energy. We can reduce landfill waste let's turn trash into treasure! What should we do with more and more garbage? Conversion of plastic and tire waste into energy carriers, such as heating oil, diesel, grill coke, synthesis gas, etc. Waste-to-Energy plant is a great alternative to reduce the area for waste treatment and disposal, in addition to generating energy for all small cities in the region. A good alternative is to create an inter-municipal cooperative between small cities to share costs. It is a social advantage if small villages we are supplied with locally produced energy, thus creating local jobs for the local energy using population from waste collected locally, where the government should finance projects, if they do not want their country to be covered in waste. Our innovation in environmental protection is the use of microwave technology. The main advantage of vapor plasma reactors is that there is no nitrogen in the plasma reactor in the microwave steam plasma, no nitrogen from the air (only hydrogen and oxygen are produced from water vapor) In emissions no nitrogen oxide, which is 40x more toxic than carbon monoxid, no sulfur dioxide (filtration with ceramic filters, with adsorbents), minimal carbon dioxide and odorless emissions. Wind turbine blades can be reused in a non-thermal microwave plasma field where the electron temperature is much higher than the generated gas temperature, including the vibrational and rotational temperature of the molecules. In the plasma space, all complex compounds such as resins, aromatic molecules and tars are effectively degraded and separated from the inorganic glass fiber reinforcement. Attending the PETCORE EUROPE Bucharest Roadshow last month was a great opportunity to see the key challenges for recyclers in Europe being addressed. I’m glad to see that important topics like immediate policy levers to get the industry on track and unlock investments, creating demand through legislation to support sustainable business models, and safeguarding the competitiveness of European industry were on the agenda. One of the key takeaways for me was the importance of developing a waste management system fit for a net-zero circular economy. It’s clear that collaboration across the value chain is essential as we move forward! #GreenTech #Sustainability #Recycling #CircularEconomy #PETCORE #EURegulations
