As part of SmartCity Expo USA that kicks off tomorrow an expert panel will gather on stage at 3:20pm to discuss strategies and actions we can take to reduce emissions in our cities. This session will discuss initiatives that include electrifying vehicles, replacing fossil diesel with renewable diesel, implementing hybrids, building a robust and resilient charging network, and finding efficiencies to reduce our carbon footprint. During this discussion attendees will hear about the newly released NYC Clean Fleet Update as NYC Chief Fleet Officer and DCAS Deputy Commissioner Keith Kerman presents on the actions the City of New York has taken to reduce carbon emissions from the city fleet and how the goals set in 2015 of 50x25 are on track to be met. This innovative approach to repurposing existing infrastructure is a game-changer in accelerating the decarbonization of transport in our cities.The World Economic Forum's Global New Mobility Coalition (GNMC) is at the forefront of this effort, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors to drive the transition to electric mobility. With the transport sector being the fastest-growing emitter of greenhouse gases, the adoption of electric vehicles is crucial in reducing our carbon footprint. Leading car manufacturers are setting ambitious targets to introduce a wide range of new EV models in the coming years, and initiatives like the GNMC are supporting this transition by promoting fiscal incentives, regulatory policies, and the deployment of charging infrastructure. The biggest challenge for EVs are chargers. IN EUROPE WE ARE FAR BEHIND! Imagine the impact this could have on our environment. By converting existing infrastructure into EV charging points, as seen in Scotland, we can make electric vehicle adoption more accessible and convenient for drivers. This innovative approach aligns with the GNMC's mission to foster sustainable mobility solutions that reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality in cities worldwide.
