It’s the 1st of July! Can you believe we’re halfway through the year? In the spirit of reflection, here’s my half-year review: Goal 1: Complete the Hyrox Race Mixed Doubles Injury-Free This challenge was immense as I had to lift the same weight as the men, with the only difference being the target height for wall balls. But I did it, and I’m feeling stronger than ever. Goal 2: Improve Financial Health I invested in business and vision coaching to clarify the business I want to build. While there’s still work to be done, I’m now in a much better place with a clear direction. Plus, I hired my first full-time assistant! Goal 3: Enhance Social Health Entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, but I’m grateful for the communities I’m part of. Co-building the Women in Business community with Daisy for INSEAD and Morris for ESSEC has been incredible. We’re also working on creating a broader, inclusive community of women in business, regardless of their school. What's Next for the Rest of 2024? As my business and coaching practice continue to grow (I’m receiving more one-on-one coaching requests), I want to serve the wider community. I’m developing resources to help you tell your story, one step at a time. Watch this space. I spent 1 year planning my dream business… and another 9 years figuring out how to stop being scared. I had ideas, plans, and passion—but many things always held me back. Fear. Self-doubt. Late nights, tough decisions, and balancing the unpredictable rhythm of life with the responsibilities I chose—it wasn’t always smooth. But every challenge sharpened my vision and my resolve. Tell us about your personal journey and how it has shaped who you are today. A. 18 years ago, I got my college degree in Film and Video Production. My first job out of school was in the TV industry. After realizing that the industry was not for me, I went back to school for photography, where I could still be in the creative space behind the camera, but run my own business. I didn't have a direction of where I wanted to go, and after not gaining much traction in my business, I gave up and began my corporate career. I worked in corporate America for 10 years and started a family. After having 3 kids, I realized that I didn't want to be tied down to a corporate job and working for someone else the rest of my life, so I recently broke away to reignite my photography business and take it full time. I think this journey has brought me full circle into seeing what I really want out of life, but also gave me the professional skills and knowledge that I can apply to my business, that I didn't have the first time around. Now with 3 little ones, I want to show them that they too can follow their dreams and create their own path in life. Q. What role has the VCBW community played in your journey? A. Discovering VCBW has shown me that there are other like-minded businesswomen in the community that I can connect with. Entrepreneurship can feel lonely, and it has given me hope to see that there is so much more to explore on this journey that I've just begun. Q. Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for the next phase of your life and career? A. I aspire to feel confident inside that I've truly taken the leap to being a professional in my business. I aspire to reach my financial goals for my family, but also maintain the freedom to make my own schedule to also be present with my family. Q. What advice would you give to women who aspire to lead and make an impact in their fields? A. I would advise them to really understand their "why" about what they are doing, to give them a magnetic purpose in their profession.
