For marginalised communities, representation is often framed as “giving them a voice.” But what if that’s missing the point? Ashna Ashesh, Executive Director at Helmof8, Lawyer, and DEI Consultant offers a fresh perspective on genuine empowerment: "When we talk about marginalised communities, we talk about giving them a voice; I'd like to see that stop. They already have a voice, just give them the mic." In this impactful episode, The Wicked Solutions Show: The Changemakers, Ashna sheds light on how media and CSOs can amplify existing voices rather than speak for them, sparking a shift towards true empowerment. #TheWickedSolutionsShow

Promoting Diversity in the Courts: Justice Joanne D. Quiñones Many judges decorate their office with pictures of judicial luminaries who they view as role models. In Supreme Court Justice Joanne D. Quiñones' office, you’ll find Wonder Woman memorabilia. Learn why, and hear about her "Camp Quiñones" mentoring program, in this new Diversity Dialogue podcast, a production of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. “To me, being a judge is not just about what you do in the courthouse on the bench, but also about what you do in the community off the bench,” according to the first Latina to ever serve as presiding member of the New York State Bar Association’s Judicial Section. “So I make time for what's important to me. And what's important to me is to be actively involved in organizations that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, to be an active participant of organizations that are concerned with access to justice issues, and to improving the court's relationship with the community. Some people joke that I never sleep. Well, you have to make time for what's important to you, so if that means I have to cut down on some sleep, that's what I'm going to do.” Audio: https://ow.ly/vMx750R5OSO Transcript: https://ow.ly/QFEB50R5OSP #DiversityInJustice #CampQuiñones #DiversityDialogue #LatinaJudge #AccessToJustice #InclusiveCourts #JudicialDiversity #WonderWomanJustice #CommunityEngagement

The point is I have read the decision. Here it is if you like to give it a read also? https://lnkd.in/dYHjy3_q Now my comments. We all know that VC funding is decided based on race and gender. VC's discriminate. We have the math to prove it! We have the math to additionally prove the churn rate of all of those VC funded companies, who exit's fail. Personal when I watch a start up get funded on Linkedin, I don't see how the problem they solve really even matters. More on that later. Discrimination in the buying of equity while unethical is not illegal and exist as apart of investment bias. Things like, ie, Goodtimes on Netflix fuel that bias everyday. Every Black person, has to understand the rules of "racism", "discrimination", in black and white (no pun), the unspoken rules and how the rules apply in the Y2k era. Yes we need 52 marches a year against the widening wealth gap. #fearlessfund #currentevents #Linkedin #news

🔃 🔁 "Everyone involved is human...I don’t believe the answer is to see them less than human - we don’t reform by breaking a person further". Wow. What a statement, what a concept...on this new episode of #WomenMakingMoves, Jennifer W.Y. Lee shares her work, her belief, and her momentum toward restorative and holistic justice. It's hard sometimes (in society) to subscribe to this because we've been trained with "an eye for an eye" vibes - which could create instant gratification, but actually makes the larger problem worse, longer term. Jennifer W.Y. Lee is working within the legal system and #DEI to create, not only equity across Illinois, but for humankind as we learn to actually restore the humanity in a person that has caused harm - which again, is hard, especially as she and I share stories of our own personal workplace abuse - but is necessary in order to create peace and harmony within our own lives. Something that Jennifer wants us all to know about DEI is, "we’re all on the same team, we all want similar things and these are the barriers that need to be overcome". Thank you, Jennifer W.Y. Lee (a proud Chicagoan and former "other" Illinoisan"). #NewPodcastEpisode #WomenMakingMoves #WomenInDEI #WomenInLaw #RestorativeJustice #HolisticJustice #FeministPodcastersCollective #Humanity
