Wild Pastures - The Untapped Biodiversity Potential of Switzerland 🌿 The aim of the Wild Pastures Switzerland association is to initiate and secure the large-scale, year-round extensively used pastures in Switzerland by robust breeds such as Highland cattle and Konik horses. The first phase of the project The Untapped Biodiversity Potential of Switzerland, supported by Somaha Foundation, aims to establish at least four pilot-pastures in different habitats and biogeographical regions to promote biodiversity. 🔗 More information about the project is available on the Somaha website: https://lnkd.in/gWqtYbY3 #WildeWeiden #Biodiversität #Naturschutz #somethingmarveloushappened Image: ©Jonas Landolt

🌱 Italian Lavender (Lavandula stoechas) has made its mark on Australian soil as an aromatic weed, yet it provides a wealth of food for our native pollinators. This highlights the complex role non-native species can play in local ecosystems. We invite you to explore the benefits and ecological impacts of this intriguing plant and consider how it fits into broader conservation efforts. If you are new to conservation, you might not be familiar with all the names and acronyms. Do you know what KBAs stands for? If not, check it out below. If we must protect 30% of all lands and waters by 2030, we must do in a smart way by protecting the most important places for biodiversity. This year BLI identified 722 KBAs across 7 countries!
Ground-breaking biodiversity project!🦜 Day 7 of our 12 Days of BirdLife celebrates 722 Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) identified across seven countries in two of the most biologically diverse regions in the world: the Tropical Andes in South America and the Congo Basin in Africa.🌎 Key Biodiversity Areas are the most important places for species and their habitats.🌳 The Bezos KBA Project’s success demonstrates the importance of identifying and protecting these vital areas as a key strategy for conserving the world’s biodiversity.📄🐦 Find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gVvSPE8b Stay tuned for our 12 Days of BirdLife! 📆🎉 #BirdLifeInternational #12DaysofBirdLife #KBAs #Habitats #Biodiversity

At less than 1% of South African land cover, forests represent our smallest and most fragmented biome, yet their significance in fostering biodiversity and human well-being is disproportionate. Afrotemperate forests are our oldest forest ecosystems and vital reservoirs of unique and endemic species. As a signatory of the Convention on Biological Diversity, South Africa is committed to aligning with The Biodiversity Plan - a global action plan to halt biodiversity loss and preserve life on earth. "Be part of the Plan" is the theme for International Day of Biodiversity (IDB) in 2024, reminding us of the urgent need for collective action to halt and reverse biodiversity loss. At CPP, we are proud to be a part of the plan, with our work directly contributing to Goal A, which aims to maintain, enhance, and restore the integrity, connectivity, and resilience of ecosystems; decrease extinction rates; and increase native biodiversity. 🌳🦜 📷: Zander Janzen van Rensburg

🕰️It’s HELCOM Through History time! 🕰️ The updated Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) was adopted at the 2021 HELCOM Ministerial Meeting in Lübeck, Germany. The first reporting on the implementation of actions will take place in 2025 and the second in 2029. The original BSAP of 2007 had set 2021 as the target year for achieving good ecological status of the sea. However, it was clear already by 2018 that this target would not be met, and an update of the plan was therefore required. The updated BSAP is divided into four segments each with specific goals; Biodiversity, Eutrophication, Hazardous substances and litter and Sea-based activities. 🌊 #HELCOMThroughHistory

What are #biodiversity credits, how do they work, and can they really boost conservation? This article by the @World Resources Institute, aims to answer these questions while exploring how they can be used to increase funding for biodiversity from the #PrivatSector. For example, two companies in #Colombia are selling biodiversity credits to support conservation efforts in the Bosque de Niebla cloud forest in #Colombia and working with local landowners to conserve or restore an area. I recommend this read to learn more about this initiative: https://ow.ly/lPbe30sBY9O

Achieving the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s goal of restoring 30% of degraded land by 2030 requires more than just planting trees. To truly protect and enhance biodiversity, restoration efforts must move beyond monocultures and embrace species-rich, biodiverse landscapes. At CBD COP16, the Global Biodiversity Standard (TGBS) was launched to set a new benchmark for nature-based solutions. Developed by Botanic Gardens Conservation International in partnership with CIFOR-ICRAF, Society for Ecological Restoration (SER), the Plan Vivo Foundation, TRAFFIC, and Ecosia – alongside in-country partners in six countries across the globe, the TGBS ensures restoration projects are biodiversity-positive, guided by rigorous assessments, ongoing mentorship, and tools like the Global Useful Native Trees Database. Two sites in Bolivia and Colombia are already certified, with others in India, Hong Kong, Madagascar, Kenya, and Uganda on their way. Learn more about TGBS:➡️ https://lnkd.in/dEM5mCRi #Trees4Resilience

For #BiodiversityDay, we want to show you Lobelia’s work mapping suitable habitats based on #EO to identify biodiversity-rich areas and guide conservation efforts where they are most needed. Our company is named after Lobelia plants, known for their resilience. Check out the habitat suitability map for Lobelia tupa below. This species native to Chile is of great importance to Mapuche communities. By combining occurrence data from the GBIF: The Global Biodiversity Information Facility with bioclimatic information from #Worldclim, we model the probabilities of the species finding suitable conditions in different areas.
