#UNForumBHR | 🎉 We’ve just concluded a great week at the 13th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights! This year’s theme was “A smart mix of measures” to protect human rights, and we advocated strongly for binding rules on business. Here are a few key highlights from our engagement: 1️⃣ We underscored the crucial role of strategic litigation as a tool to hold corporations accountable for human rights abuse. The Forum provided a great opportunity to share cross-jurisdictional and cross-thematic insights into litigation strategies. 2️⃣ We advocated for the need for Indigenous communities and workers to be at the centre of the #JustTransition. Together with our partners AIDA and Stakeholder Democracy Network, we co-organised a session highlighting three key pillars for a Just Energy Transition, including responsible disengagement from fossil fuels: - Stop the injustice: Decolonisation! - Shift the power: Decentralisation! - Stop polluting and clean up your mess: Decarbonisation! 3️⃣ Corporate lobbying to prevent and weaken laws remains a pernicious problem, as we saw with the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). We shared strategies for detecting and countering corporate capture of political processes. 4️⃣ The Forum was also about connections. Meeting partners face-to-face, both during the official sessions and informal spaces like the Civil Society Night Out (co-organised by SOMO), was definitely a highlight. These moments of solidarity energise us for the work ahead! We leave the Forum inspired and more determined than ever to counter corporate power and fight for a just and sustainable economy! ✊ _____ #JustTransition #BizzHumanRights #CorporateAccountability
