Are you single? Or dating? It’s the start of a fresh week, and you know what that means: time to 'date well' and 'date long'. In the world of design, we do a lot of 'dating'. And by dating, I mean testing the waters to see if there’s a basis for something more permanent. When we’re looking at a new supplier, it’s not just about swiping right; it’s about finding the right fit. Are our values aligned? Do they get us? And do we want to go steady for the long haul? It’s not uncommon for me to say, "Let’s date them," because, like all relationships, it takes work to find the right partner. The same goes for our clients—it’s all about fit. You need that spark and the mutual respect to know it’s going to be a lasting relationship. Just like life, there are challenges to work through, communication to improve upon, and the ideal relationship is where grow together and trust. Fremantle Design Week is on now, celebrating design in all its forms with more than 50 events running throughout Fremantle/Walyalup. Themed ‘transition’, the week-long, walkable festival is designed to inspire and entertain, asking how, in challenging times, we rethink our world to design a healthy, positive future. From exhibitions, keynotes, a catwalk show, conversations, tours, films, open studios, and kids’ workshops, there is something for everyone. Head to our port city to experience it for yourself. When Eugene Hooks invited me, I couldn’t say no—and I was curious about how, as a "non-designer," my perspective on transition / change would resonate with the design experts in the room. The past month marked a major milestone in my journey—directing my very first campaign shoot for Outerworld. It was a whirlwind of creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, and every second felt surreal. From conceptualizing the vision to bringing it to life with an incredible team, the process was equal parts challenging and exhilarating. Watching the pieces come together—lighting, styling, locations—was like seeing a dream materialize in real-time. There were moments of doubt, improvisation, and yes, a few (okay, many) learning curves, but that’s the beauty of creating something from the heart. The result? A campaign that tells a story, embodies our brand, and celebrates everything Outerworld stands for. Grateful for the trust, the teamwork, and the energy everyone brought to this project.
