Former Rajya Sabha member Shanta Chhetri seeks 40 per cent import duty on Nepal tea The demand to impose 40 per cent import duty on tea from Nepal is getting louder with the Darjeeling industry being hit hard by the inflow of the brew from the neighbouring country. Chhetri in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said according to the customs tariff 2019/20 published by the ministry of finance and department of customs of the government of Nepal, the neighbouring country is imposing an import duty of 40 per cent on tea from India. Chhetri has said around 16 million kgs of made tea are imported to India from Nepal annually. “Out of 16 million kgs of tea imported into India from Nepal annually, about 5 to 6 million kgs is of the orthodox variety that resembles the Darjeeling orthodox tea growing in the 87 tea estates in Darjeeling,” said Chhetri. “The central government is aware that most of the Nepal teas are cheap, substandard and hazardous for health and the orthodox variety is deceptively sold to the domestic consumers as Darjeeling tea,” said Chhetri. Around 2 lakh people are employed in the Darjeeling Tea gardens spread over19,000 hectares.Chhetri has said the cost of tea production in Nepal is at least 40 per cent less than in India. She also alleged that enforcement agencies weren’t properly monitoring the storage of Nepal tea and testing. If you are a fresher in the Export field. 🔥Join our Startup Export Training. As an international importer, we at Kiah International adopt several crucial steps in logistics to ensure timely and responsible delivery. Here is what we do: Ethical Sourcing: First, we conduct thorough research into the suppliers' practices, ensuring they comply with ethical standards, such as fair labor practices, environmental sustainability, and adherence to international regulations. Shipping to Australian Shores: The goods are transported to the Australian shores via ocean freight, air freight, or a combination of both. We work closely with shipping companies to coordinate the logistics of transportation, including customs clearance, documentation, and compliance with import regulations. Responsible Warehousing: Upon arrival in Australia, the goods are transported to our warehouses. These facilities are strategically located to optimize logistics efficiency and minimize transportation costs. Our warehouses are equipped with advanced inventory management systems to track the movement of goods in real time and ensure accurate stock levels. Packing and Distribution: Once the goods arrive in the warehouses, we conduct quality checks. We then meticulously pack the goods according to retail store owners' requirements, considering factors such as packaging preferences and transportation needs. Finally, we dispatch the packed goods to retail stores through various distribution channels, including direct shipments or third-party logistics providers. Thus we ensure that every step – from sourcing to distribution – aligns with our values and contributes to the satisfaction of our partners and the happiness of our customers. #LogisticsExcellence #TimelyDelivery #SupplyChainResponsibility #EthicalSourcing #CustomsCompliance #WarehouseManagement #InventoryOptimization #DistributionEfficienc #Kiah #SouthAustralia #Import #Export #Business #Growth #QualityProducts #Adelaide

Tariff Alert: Mexico The Mexican Government recently published a Decree by which it increased import duties on almost half a thousand tariff items corresponding to diverse industries, including steel, aluminum, glass, paper, footwear, and textiles, among others, affecting those goods from countries with which Mexico has not entered into a free trade agreement. Some of these increases reached a rate of 50%, which is the maximum tariff that a country is allowed to implement according to the World Trade Organization (WTO); being the rate of 35% the most common increase. It is believed that the origin of this increase was due to two main circumstances: i) pressure from the United States due to the concern that Chinese products were entering Mexico and then being triangulated to their country without the payment of tariffs and, ii) protection of several national sectors within the current electoral context. It is important that before you export to new or even existing markets that you regularly check the applicable tariffs.
