It’s the small things that matter…especially when you’re trying to get your resubmission funded. Before you let disappointment bring you back to the drawing board, there are some tweaks to make that can take you right over that pay line. Let’s talk about one: How simple is your argument? Look at how you’re communicating your research idea in your grant. Does it make sense to you? Great.  But does it make sense to your readers? That’s the question that really matters. If your reviewers have questions you thought you already answered within your R01, that’s a clear sign you didn’t connect the dots for them. And asking your reviewers to figure it out for themselves is a hard and fast NO for your R01. Mission, Vision, and Values Statements are needed in grant writing. They are part of the organizational area of focus. Grantmaking is not a one-size-fits-all process. It requires constant learning, experimenting, and adjusting to the needs and opportunities of your community.     That's why knowledge work is so important. In this white paper, Angela Frusciante, Ph.D. shares how to use knowledge work to create a more flexible grant strategy that fosters equity and facilitates intentional change.

One of the biggest hurdles grant professionals face... You've found the perfect foundation...it's a great fit for your mission, you believe in the same causes and serve the audience they are seeking to help. BUT as you research further, you see this: "No unsolicited proposals accepted". Now what? Move on, right? Not necessarily. Why not do a bit more research to find out if anyone on YOUR board knows anyone on the foundation board so you can perhaps start a conversation. Research the IRS990 to look for trends in giving -- do they align with what you do? Follow and engage with the foundation on social media as a starting point to getting to know them. Perhaps they are open to a brief discovery call? Bottom line? Do your research and if there's a genuine connection, then reach out! Thanks Kara D.
