The Image of the Child in Early Education
In early childhood education, the way we view children affects how we teach and care for them. Here's how we think about children in Ontario's early years education:
➡ Children are seen as smart, capable, and full of potential.
➡ They actively take part in their learning and development instead of just being taught.
➡ Every child is unique, with their strengths, interests, and ways of seeing the world.
➡ Children help build knowledge, think deeply, and solve problems.
➡ They grow and learn at their own pace, shaped by their families, communities, and cultures.
This view means that we respect children's rights, celebrate their differences, and recognize their ability to shape their learning. Educators create spaces and experiences that encourage curiosity, independence, and growth in all areas of a child's development.
By seeing children as capable and smart, educators work alongside them, designing learning environments and activities that support their natural learning abilities and make education a shared journey.
