Sora Care’s Post

Since the legalization of recreational cannabis, some now dispute the need for medical cannabis clinics, however, most new patients require support from a healthcare professional. Not only for the perks of holding a prescription or for treatment and product guidance, but more importantly for harm reduction. New patients are often seeking ways to reduce or stop prescription drugs. Cannabis contains many components (cannabinoids, terpenes, etc) potentially able to induce clinically significant or non-significant drug interactions. Introducing medical cannabis to a patient's pharmacopeia needs extra precaution, as it increases the risk of experiencing an interaction. Interactions can vary considerably when taking into account dosage, the natural variability of cannabinoids, THC and CBD ratios, methods of administration and a patient's metabolism.  Pharmacists are not all equipped to provide counsel for medical cannabis treatment, and until we can purchase medical cannabis through a pharmacy we need specialized clinics and trained healthcare professionals.
