Deadlines are your creative best friends. As I went through the list of things I had to do before publishing my book. There was a little voice saying: “Next year will be fine. Come on man, just delay.” I had to snap out of it: “Procrastination, be gone.” This little exercise of listing all I had to do: - pulled me out of the creation mode - pushed me into the communication mode. Because I know if nobody hears about my book, all my work – starting and pushing through the messy middle – will be wasted. Whatever you’re building, don't be an "eternal editor" at some point you have to ship. Reverse engineer the end state. Put a date on it. Use that deadline to keep you accountable. This statement from the world-renowned writer, Javed Akhtar, blew my mind. He was speaking for writers, but this concept applies to marketers as well. Marketers are in the job of influencing people with their words. They need to learn the art and science of evoking the right references in their audience’s minds. They should know how to set up the right context or ‘atmosphere’ in their audience's minds so that their words evoke the thoughts and memories they intend to evoke. One way to develop this capability is by reading the masters of literature and understanding their wordplay. P.S.> Find the link to the video in the comments!

Last week, a client received this beautiful reply to their newsletter. We've only written 6 editions, but still... ...a reader gave us the highest compliment: "I thought no one understood me but your words throughout these emails really mean a lot to me." I write a lot about the monetary benefits of sending emails: - Making more money from the traffic you already have - Automating sales through emails - and so on But the "impact" part of it often goes overlooked. This reader had no idea who my client was until 3 weeks ago. My takeaway? Some think having a ghostwriter makes your message impersonal. I disagree - The right writer can amplify your message and leave a bigger impact on more readers. Have a nice Wednesday :)
