🔴Breaking: In the afternoon, the more than 80 survivors were able to disembark in Reggio Calabria. The 24-hour delay by the Italian authorities in assigning a place of safety caused unnecessary uncertainty for the survivors, many of whom were brought on board in a critical condition. Some of them were immediately taken to hospital. We are relieved that everyone is finally ashore and wish them all the best for the future. P.S.: With your donation you support human rights and humanity – ALL TOGETHER FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE! 👉 https://lnkd.in/e4qQnPVJ 📷: Wanda Proft / SOS Humanity

Fight Against Modern Slavery Originally celebrated in a few different countries, this event started in 1998 with Haiti (where the uprising began), Goree Island in Senegal the following year, and then the event has grown to include more countries in the years since its inception. One of the purposes behind this day, according to the UN, is to “inscribe the tragedy of the slave trade in the memory of all peoples”. The hope is that the International Day of Remembrance for the Slave Trade and Its Abolition will serve as a reminder for people to consider the history and devastation of this tragic practice as the countries of the world continue to move forward toward a peaceful and free existence. Join together with some larger groups of people who are interested in fighting against the continued injustices of modern day slavery. In honor of the International Day of Remembrance for the Slave Trade and Its Abolition, consider connected with some non-profit organizations through volunteering time or making a financial donation. A very interesting talk with our CEO and president David Miliband and Kamran Abbasi for the BMJ Christmas appeal. There is indeed a necessity of navigating complex political landscapes to ensure aid delivery and protection for health services. Moreover, the broader implications of global health governance, suggesting that the weakening of democratic institutions has led to a decline in the protection of civilian rights, including access to healthcare during conflicts. The dialogue prompted several critical reflections: Reversing Political Trends: How might the global community reverse the "march of impunity" and the concurrent "democratic recession"? This question beckons for a global introspection on how to restore accountability in conflict zones, ensuring that attacks on healthcare are met with international condemnation and legal repercussions. Democratic Action: With democracy in retreat, which specific measures should democratic nations adopt to halt and reverse this trend? Miliband's dialogue suggests a need for robust diplomatic engagements, economic sanctions, or support for international legal frameworks to deter such violations. Reinforcing International Norms: What practical steps are required to enforce international laws and norms in regions like Gaza, where the daily reality of conflict defies these principles? The conversation hints at the necessity for more than just rhetoric; it calls for tangible mechanisms like peacekeeping forces, international monitoring, or enhanced roles for organizations like the IRC in rebuilding health infrastructures post-conflict. #HealthInConflict #NotATarget

Sometimes just giving is best.
Friends in (or near) London, the Light the World Giving Machines at Spitalfields Market (on Spital Square) are a powerful way to donate to vital causes. Because they are supplied by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and run by volunteers, 100% of the proceeds go to beneficiary charities: - The Felix Project - Muslim Aid UK - Jesuit Refugee Service UK - ShelterBox - FareShare UK - iDE (International Development Enterprises) - Under One Sky Go on your lunch break. Take friends or family on an evening or weekend. Give and then grab a bite to eat. They are in place until 11 December. ✨🌟⭐💫♥️ https://lnkd.in/eyJ4fuen

Sometimes a quiet, powerful quote can shift perspective. "The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality." - James Baldwin We are donating our modest online marketing budget for Book 1, Allie Alpaca Asks Questions, to a few incredible organizations serving children and families in critical situations globally. Pineapple Friends stands for kids. All of them. And, so do these organizations. World Central Kitchen - is first to the frontlines, providing meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. 350 million meals served. International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC - ensures humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and other situations of violence. Active in 90 countries. Bookwallah Organization - helps children of trauma make a positive shift in their psychological consciousness through the power of stories. 45,000 children of trauma reached with 1st level interventions via Magic Crate Libraries. These are small bets, for big impact. We wish for swift and immediate end of violence to kids and families. Launch with us. https://lu.ma/1fboye63
