Mercedes-Benz USA has issued a voluntary recall affecting 23 models and more than 30,000 individual cars due to potentially detaching sunroofs. According to documents submitted to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), this is the latest step in an investigation the company began in 2017. Work performed during and around that time included overhauling and installing a 283ci V8 and four-speed manual transmission as well as refacing the flywheel, repainting the suspension and rear axle, and replacing the ring-and-pinion, clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, U-joints, and axle bearings. The brake wheel cylinders and tires were replaced in 2018. The chassis is further equipped with 15" steel wheels, a driveshaft, a dual exhaust system, and both front and rear suspension components. Per the seller, the body was removed in 2023 to be used in a modified build.
