In India, dance is an integral part of our cultural fabric, from wedding celebrations to festival rituals, and even our films are infused with synchronized group dances. At 𝐒𝐈𝐅𝐅 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞, we are advocating for the inclusion of group dance in schools as a crucial tool for holistic student development, in line with 𝐍𝐄𝐏 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎’𝐬 emphasis on integrating cultural education into academics. 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Dr. Peter Lovatt’s research shows that group dancing activates multiple areas of the brain simultaneously, improving cognitive function. At SIFF Young Artiste, our community dance programs across schools have seen students benefit from improved memory, heightened concentration, and greater creativity. Dancing as a coordinated group not only stimulates brain activity but helps students develop better coordination and problem-solving skills over time. 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀: Dance offers a unique form of emotional release and self-expression. Dr. Lovatt’s research highlights how movement allows individuals to express emotions that are difficult to articulate verbally. Through our Young Artiste Dance Program, which often includes Bollywood dance and native language instruction, students are given a safe space to explore and express their emotions through movement. Many participants report feeling more connected to their peers and more at ease sharing their emotions through dance. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: Dr. Lovatt’s findings show that group dancing fosters empathy, cooperation, and a sense of responsibility towards others. Our Young Artiste program not only teaches students dance techniques but emphasizes collaboration through group choreography and performances. This collective effort has helped students build stronger connections with their peers and become more engaged in their communities. The positive social interaction fostered by group dance encourages students to work together, boosting their social awareness and fostering a sense of community. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: The neuroscience behind group dance proves its immense value as an educational tool. By integrating dance into the school curriculum, we are offering students more than just an art form; we are providing them with a path to cognitive growth, emotional well-being, and social development. Through programs like those at SIFF Young Artiste, students gain valuable life skills such as teamwork, empathy, and self-expression, all while celebrating the joy of movement.

Celebrate Your Body, Celebrate Yourself: Why Dance is More Than Just Steps Happy International Dance Day! As a fellow dance enthusiast and owner of DivyaShakthi, I can't let this day pass without celebrating the magic of movement. Dance wasn't just an after-school activity for me; it was a foundation. Learning different styles from a young age instilled in me a confidence and expressiveness that I carry with me to this day. It wasn't just about pirouettes and pliés – it was about breaking out of my shell, connecting with others, and discovering a sense of pure joy that transcended words. But the benefits go far beyond the social and emotional. Dance is a fantastic workout, disguised as fun! It improves concentration as you learn intricate routines, and those energetic leaps and stamps get your blood pumping, stimulating nerve endings in your feet. It's a full-body experience that leaves you feeling energized and happy. Here at Divyashakthi, we believe that dance is for everyone, at every age. Whether you're a seasoned performer or have two left feet (we all start somewhere!), there's a style waiting to be explored. Dance isn't just about physical fitness; it's about mental clarity, emotional release, and a chance to connect with your inner artist. So, this International Dance Day, I urge you to step outside your comfort zone. Put on your favorite music, let loose, and feel the rhythm take over. You might surprise yourself with the joy you discover, the confidence you build, and the energy that floods your mind and body. Because dance isn't just steps – it's a celebration of life itself. Let's move together! Happy dancing, Divya Menon Founder - DivyaShakthi

#Snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking The Importance of Dance Every single day we move. We move for survival, we move instinctively, and we move out of the need for raw and authentic expression. Movement without restriction, movement that connects us to each other in mind, body and spirit is simply and wonderfully, dance. Constantly evolving through multiple genres, dance is a universal human experience and its importance is immeasurable. Wellness It’s no secret that dance promotes physical health and wellness. Elevated mood, improved cardiovascular functioning, flexibility, coordination and balance are all apparent benefits of this art form, but what have we learned about the mind-body connection? Dancers aren’t just beautiful physically, it turns out their brains are pretty darn attractive too with research beginning to focus on the neurological as well as the physical benefits of dance. Research tells us dancers may actually be building and strengthening the cognitive connections in their brains as they learn and execute physical movements that are coupled with complex mental demands. Dance activates multiple brain regions including areas responsible for problem solving, physical coordination and emotions. Dancers it seems, may very well have discovered the fountain of youth, with long term wellness possible through the combined physical and mental benefits of dance. Culturally Inclusive No one can take credit for inventing dance. “It is deep in the heart of every culture throughout history; dance is part of the pulse of humanity.” We’ve all seen it happen. Young children across race, religion and language will seamlessly move their bodies to rhythm when they hear music. Dance gives all of us, no matter who we are or where we come from, a platform for personal expression and a pathway for social connection; serving as a one-of-a-kind and truly inclusive cultural phenomenon. Giving and Receiving Dance allows us to step into a place of self-discovery that feeds both the dancer and the audience. Watching someone dance activates emotions for the audience as if they were executing the choreography themselves. Studies show us when a dancer’s movement shows joy or sadness, others often get to experience the same emotions, creating true feelings and empathy. In the end, dance opens a reciprocal portal of respect with the dancer giving, the audience receiving, and consequently paying it forward by expressing appreciation back to the dancer. Should you already be privy to the influence and promise of dance in your own life, be sure and share the secret with someone you care about soon. After all, the dance floor is open and waiting for each of us. Polli Ring is a freelance blog writer specializing in Colorado based businesses and content.

Kids Dance Upload Platform: Share Kids' Performances With The Whole World No form of art is as inherently universal as dance since it combines storytelling without the constraints of language. It connects individuals within and beyond cultures. Children view dance as not just a means of expressing their feelings but also as a way to inject confidence, discipline and creativity in their lives. Given the insane capabilities that come with and the recognition of children, Artsum.in in its ever-creative self introduced the Kids Dance Upload Platform geared at encouraging children to dance and express themselves to the world audiences. The Future of Dance is Here Today There was a time where all dance that’s performed is showcased on the general circumstances of local events, interschool competitions and occasionally annual functions. But there is no doubt that these events had their usefulness, there existed precisely the gap that most talented children performers should have but had never come or been recognized. Enter the Kids Dance Upload Platform, the network that even American presidents and G20 leaders are dreaming of – bringing the whole World to the scaffold of one stage. With this platform children are encouraged to showcase what they love and enjoy the most – dancing! Whether a child wants to perform a fully-polished dance practice video or create a dance that is so unstructured it always pictures a kid with joy and laughter. It instils a sense of elimination that enables a child to focus on being artistic without fearing judgement. The importance of such a platform is highly felt. Children who may not have the means to attend a pro dance studio or have mentoring teachers can still be seen or appreciated. For the parents it’s a chance to hold onto and languish their offspring’s dances in front of the masses making sure that it is captured on tape for the generations to come. The Upload Kids Dance Performances is most used by families who are keen on recording special occasions or other significant events such as, for instance, ethnic customs. There are all genres from the traditional Indian dances such as Bharatanatyam and Kathak, to currently practiced hip hop. The platform aims to include and represent all genres. The Kids Dance Upload Platform can be very beneficial to educators and instructors of dance. It can allow them to present the development of their students, endorse further students or even organize some virtual contests. Combining old methods of teaching with newer forms of technology, the platform makes the content more interesting and extends its scope. I’m on my nineteenth pair of Bloch dance shoes. I hope I need 20 more. For 18 years, I’ve taken a hip-hop/jazz/impromptu dance class with the same group of spectacular women. We are a tribe. We celebrate and support each other. We laugh, sweat, and most importantly we show up…for each other and ourselves. Lessons from the Dance Floor: Showing Up to Dance Class or Showing Up for Work Stepping into my dance class is similar to walking into my home office. “It’s go time, baby.” Both require a blend of dedication, flexibility, and enthusiasm. Although the music volume is 99% quieter (and instrumental only) while I’m working, here are some ways my two worlds overlap: Commitment In dance, consistent practice is essential. You can’t walk into a class off the street and intuitively know the moves. It takes practice, patience, and a pinch of humility to be new at something until it feels natural. Showing up regularly helps me see progress and improvement. Funny how things become more fun after you learn the basics and then you can put your flavor-flav on it. Embracing Mistakes My dance instructor doesn’t give any verbal cues. She just moves. Fast. I do my best, but sometimes I mess up. “Oh well.” There are no do-overs, just laugh and catch up. I’m cool with being the 2nd or 3rd best in the class. It pushes me to learn and grow. At work, I’m fortunate to be in an environment where I feel safe if I drop the ball on something. I’m human. (Thank you, Michael Papay) I own my mistakes, fix them (which may include asking for help), and hopefully don't repeat them. Staying Present Dance demands presence. Each movement requires focus, like the attention needed to tackle projects at work. I loooove getting in the zone, “in the pocket” my musician husband would say, and getting so into a work task that I lose track of time (except when I’m subsequently late for a Zoom call). Team Collaboration I could dance alone at home. It’s nowhere near as fun as being part of a group moving together. I’m addicted to the ‘team sport’ of the class. Similarly, I am wired to do my best work in small teams which requires communication, trust, and support, and I’m here for it. Adaptability The dance floor is a place of constant change. New moves, new music, varying class sizes, etc. Being agile is crucial in the workplace as well. Things are 100% going to change…every. single.day. Find the joy Dance class is my happy place, for obvious reasons. Work is my happy place, too. I love contributing, figuring something out, helping people, and making a positive impact for my organization. I can’t control many things, but I can control how hard I try to do a ‘good job’ every day. I’m also the biggest ‘hootin’ and hollerin’ person in my dance class and resident cheerleader at work. The awesome Tony Mitchell always talks about ‘showing up with energy.’ YES! Keep dancin’!

It's been an incredible year since Olly and I began co-hosting WEDNESDAY MOVING, a community dance space in Hackney, London. As we celebrate its first birthday, we’re reflecting on what we’ve learned about building an open, creative, and welcoming space where movement and community thrive. Here are 10 things we’ve learned along the way: https://lnkd.in/ep_b9NPk #community #inclusion #creativity #collaboration #team #coleadership 1. We need coffee — Honestly, we wouldn’t get through those admin mornings without it! @cafemelohackney 2. Sharing the workload — It’s about trusting each other to take on the parts we’re both good at. Because doing it all by yourself is just not the way to go. 3. Hosting is just as important as teaching dance — The way we hold the space is key. It's not just about the moves; it’s about creating an environment where people feel welcome and seen. And we’re constantly learning and evolving with this idea. 4. communicating, and repeating, that this space is open to all and no dance experience is necessary, is necessary! 5. We do it because we love it — Simple, but true. The love for dance and community keeps us coming back, week after week. 6. How Do We Grow? — Inviting movement practitioners who are very different from us! We’ve collaborated with Hip-hop, Klein Technique, Somatic practices, Ilan Lev Method, Contemporary, Skinner Releasing Technique, Somatic Samba, Guided Improvisation, Body-Mind Centering®, Reset Movement Practice, variations on Gaga, and so much more! We’ve open up our ways and styles and watching this community develop their own unique ways of moving is amazing. 7. Humour is a big part of how we stay light and open to this journey. 8. Dancing with people is the best part — There’s no better feeling than moving with a group, connecting through dance. 9. The fear of dancing as an adult is a thing. It's such a thing that we would love to try and engage that - and invite more people into this space! to see how simply dance can change the way they feel, think about their bodies, spaces and more. 10. Thank you —@andrew7coombs for lovingly passing this tiny project into our hands, and thanks for the ongoing support to @old_school_rooms and the team behind it. And, of course, thanks @adrenalindancelondon and @aj47soulmeezy at the front of it for all the support. #community #inclusion #waysofworking #Culture Olly & Galit xx

🌻 A JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY : EMBRACING DANCE 💫 I want to share something with everyone who’s reading this post, whether you’re a dedicated dancer or just glancing by. Dance has always been something I personally never liked—no judgments here, as that was simply my choice. However, I have immense respect for those who love to dance or have made it their professional career. 💫 Over time, as I went through a low phase in my life, I began listening to music more frequently. To my surprise, I found myself moving to the rhythm, and I realized that I was never a bad dancer; it was just a mental barrier I had built around myself. That day, I discovered that music and dance go hand in hand. There’s no such thing as good or bad when it comes to dancing; it’s all about the experience and the joy it brings. 💫 Reflecting on my past, I remember how my mom enrolled me in dance classes when I was younger. At the time, I wasn’t interested and often forced myself to attend practice sessions, especially during family events like weddings. But everything changed recently at my cousin's wedding. When he called and said there would be dance practice , I didn’t hesitate or made faces—I simply said, “Okay, I'll dance.” 💫 This newfound willingness came from the joy I had started to find in dancing. As I stepped onto the stage and let the music guide me, I felt elegant and confident. It was a transformative moment that sparked a decision: to embrace dance as a hobby. 💫 Since then, dancing has become a wonderful outlet for me. It has helped release stress and quiet my overthinking mind. The positive shift in my attitude toward dance—and towards myself—has been remarkable. 💫 I’ve always respected those who dance, but for the first time in my life—just two months ago—I found joy in it myself. Dance is no longer just an activity; it's a celebration of life and self-expression. 💖 So here’s to discovering new passions and embracing the beauty of movement ! #confidence #elegance #positivity
