I am currently an undergraduate student pursuing a BA in Management, Leadership, and Leisure at The University of Manchester. In my final year, I chose Edutainment and Leisure as an optional course. Under the guidance of Dr. Miri Firth PFHEA, we were assigned a LinkedIn task to explore the question: ‘How effective is edutainment, and how can we measure its impact in this area?’ I am especially interested in two leading organizations: The British Museum and the National Trust. I am contacting you to gain deeper insights into the tourism sector and further explore this topic. The British Museum is a world-renowned institution that houses numerous rare artefacts and regularly hosts exhibitions and events, thus significantly contributing to edutainment. National Trust, Europe’s largest nature conservation organization, protects 709 miles of coastline, 250,000 hectares of areas of outstanding natural beauty, 104 nature reserves, and six World Heritage Sites. The Trust also cares for remarkable historic houses and gardens and maintains one of the world’s most extensive collections of fine art and heritage objects. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to ask Nicci Smith and Beata Kibil a few questions regarding their approaches: 1. How does The British Museum or National Trust strike a balance between education and entertainment, especially when targeting children? 2. Does The British Museum or National Trust have a specific measurement standard for assessing whether edutainment content meets intended educational or cultural objectives? 3. Does The British Museum or National Trust use audience feedback to refine their content? If so, how is this feedback incorporated into ongoing improvements? 4. How does The British Museum or National Trust measure the long-term impact of edutainment? I look forward to your feedback and would be delighted to discuss these topics with you further! #Tourism #Edutainment #TheBritishMuseum #NationalTrust

Here's my 2024 LinkedIn #Rewind, by Coauthor.studio (I love it, it reconnected me with -not all but- 3 special moments during this year) 2024 thought me that #internaSOCIALization transcends institutions. It's about building bridges that connect and benefit communities, regardless of where we stand. After 9 years leading internationalization and community engagement at UCM, I embraced the challenge of reinvention while staying true to our mission of global impact through local connection. Key milestones that shaped our journey: → Learn Chile's growth to represent 54% of Chile's higher education enrollment → Successful implementation of #Erasmus+ projects connecting institutions across continents → Launch of #FrançaisàlaCarte, strengthening francophone connections (we joined AUF and signed a collaboration agreement with Instituto Francés de Chile → Development of sustainable partnerships with partners of all continents. Posts that resonated most with my community: "El viernes recién pasado fue mi último día laboral en la UCM" ("Last Friday was my last labor day at #UCM) On loving what you do while embracing necessary change https://lnkd.in/eqmuHFZ4 "Community Engagement and Internationalization with Boston College delegation" On #internaSOCIALization as a process of social dialogue https://lnkd.in/eiM5jwV6 "La UCM será parte del programa #FrancésaLaCarta" Building linguistic bridges for global citizenship https://lnkd.in/e9b-66R3 To every colleague, partner, and friend who's been part of this journey - thanks for showing that global collaboration doesn't know about borders. As I step into new challenges in 2025, my commitment remains unchanged: fostering meaningful connections that transform both local and global communities. The journey continues, with new horizon, but the same global collaboration spirit. 🌎🤝 #internaSOCIALization #VinculacionUCM #LearnChile #internationalization -- Get your 2024 LinkedIn Rewind! As a Final-year student of Management, Leadership and Leisure at the University of Manchester, I am studying Edutainment and Leisure as one of my optional modules. Dr. Miri Firth PFHEA' s deliverance has been engaging and informative as she has guided us through the latest research. Encouraging us to think critically about the impact of edutainment, our task is to measure the effectiveness of edutainment in our chosen area. I have chosen to focus on tourism in Manchester, specifically the Manchester Museum and the Imperial War Museum North. Both institutions are great examples of how entertainment and education can be combined into informative and engaging experiences. The Manchester Museum's impressive collection of Egyptian artefacts, natural history specimens and global cultures, provides visitors a journey through time and space! Particularly, the museum's portrayal of the interconnectedness of our world is a highlight. Alternatively, the Imperial War Museum North has an expected somber approach aligning with dark edutainment as it shares the realities of war and conflict through a collection of personal belongings, military vehicles and interactive exhibits. A truly moving and powerful experience. Both museums have different approaches to edutainment, making it even more interesting to measure the effectiveness. I am curious to know which approach to edutainment, if any, is the most effective. To find out, I ask the Manchester Museum and the Imperial War Museum North the following questions: - How can visitor interaction with exhibits be tracked e.g., social media shares, surveys or time spent in different areas? - Could pre- and post- quizzes be used to assess visitors knowledge and understanding? - Does dark edutainment, like the more emotionally-charged exhibits at the Imperial War Museum North, have a greater impact on visitors' learning and retention of information? #edutainment #manchestermuseum #imperialwarmuseumnorth #tourism #uom #engagement

Probably the most elaborate entrance to a British Educational Travel Association (BETA) board meeting, courtesy of Frameless Immersive Art Experience! This was followed by a great networking event at Hard Rock Cafe London. Always great to see so many faces, old and new, that are working so hard to drive the industry forward. My two biggest takeaways; 1. There remains a huge belief within the industry that access to educational travel at a young age is formative experience. 2. As a country, we are simply not doing enough to help our younger generations have these experiences, nor are welcoming younger travellers from overseas. We could start to address this by entering in to serious discussions around: 👉 Introducing a Youth Group Travel Scheme - to allow low-risk groups of young people under the age of 18 to travel to and from the UK for cultural and educational visits. 👉 Expanding the Youth Mobility Scheme into the EU - to help plug the labour market crisis and provide opportunities for young people aged 18-35 to live and work 👉 Creating global marketing campaigns to promote the UK as a destination for young people BETA’s next event will be the Youth & Student Travel Summit on 8th October in Bristol, come join us! 👇 #youthtravel #studenttravel #educationalttavel

3 categories of things that expand our vision: 1. International travel 2. Local experiences (including in-person college experience) 3. Books, online classes, continuing education One of the best things my parents did was allowing me as a teenager to travel internationally. Since international travel may not be feasible for many of us, another way to get similar experiences is on a college campus. I’ll give you an example from the institute where I work at UF. In the same day, I can talk to a post-doc from Turkey who worked as a tour guide at the Hagia Sophia during college (amazing history there); and later on I can talk to another post-doc from Brazil who was doing intubations during his first shift of work as a doctor in Brazil during Covid… at 23 years old. That’s the power of top-notch higher education. I may not ever go to Turkey or Brazil, but I can gain some perspective working on the college campus. Another fascinating example… a female engineer who is part of our institute who came from another middle eastern country. She told me that the thing she loves about working in the United States is that it is a system based on meritocracy. She compared that with the country she came from where a scientist’s ability to rise through the ranks was often driven by what political party they were in. I haven’t traveled internationally since I’ve been a parent. But being in an academic institute, I get to learn from people, and their stories, from all over the world.

🎓 WHAT, WHEN and HOW in London? Part 1: Navigating University Accommodation Hello everyone, Hope you're all thriving. With UK university offer letters on the horizon, I've been getting questions from international students about uni life and settling in the vibrant city of London. So, I've decided to kick off a series here on LinkedIn to address the most pressing concerns which hopefully might ease your transition abroad. Let's dive into one of the first big decisions: accommodation in London. It's a maze, no doubt about it. When I was in your shoes, I found myself weighing three main options: 1. UCL Accommodation: UCL offers a diverse range of options with halls conveniently scattered across central London. They cater to various room types, accommodating different budgets. 2. UOL Intercollegiate Halls: These halls, open to students from any publicly funded university, present a varied selection on their website. You can explore different room types, locations, and budgets tailored to your preferences.UCL did offer a few options which were intercollegiate halls on its website, so keep a check! 3.Private Student Accommodation: There's a plethora of private options, with IQ standing out among students. Websites like AmberStudent and Universityliving are great places to start your search. Now, personally, I didn't delve too deep into the private sector, but it's worth considering. Just be sure to check out Google reviews for insights. Availability might be tricky; I encountered sold-out options and long waiting lists, ultimately leading me to choices similar in cost to UCL/UOL, but farther from campus. One crucial tip: proximity to campus matters! Factor in potential travel costs because commuting can be a bit expensive, especially in London. Reach out to students who have lived in your potential accommodation for their insights. And remember, the sooner you start exploring, the better deals you're likely to snag! Lastly, your accommodation choice can significantly impact your university experience, so explore the facilities thoroughly. Best of luck on your accommodation journey! 🏡 #LondonUniLife #AccommodationChoices #Studentlife #internationalstudent #UCL #London #UnitedKingdom #UK
