We're excited to announce that Seal Security is now integrated with GitLab. Secure your applications within your existing workflows by utilizing standalone security patches, and enable your teams to effectively mitigate open source vulnerabilities without undergoing difficult upgrades. Seal Security empowers teams to independently apply fixes without involving R&D and centralizes the replacement of all vulnerable package instances across all CI pipelines. Integrate Seal Security with GitLab and empower organizations to adopt a "secure by default" approach to open source software, keeping your applications secure without compromising stability or your team's productivity. I am probably something of an outlier on this topic, but I do have a degree of sympathy for Crowdstrike. I am willing to bet that those of us in the software game have all written bad code, deployed garbage to production, and poorly tested code in our careers, for a multitude of different reasons. Most of the time we are lucky, but sometimes not so much - and today is some poor Crowdstrike developer's unlucky day. My view is that there is also a responsibility on the part of the customers of Crowdstrike to satisfy themselves that their own systems and processes are able to handle outages caused by third-party products in their service chain. That's called business continuity planning and disaster recovery. Protect your own organisation, don't just blindly assume that your suppliers will do it for you (they can't because only you know your business) and don't just scapegoat them when things go wrong. A little humility and shared responsibility would go a long way to restoring trust all round - and no, I have never worked for Crowdstrike 😀
"CrowdStrike’s CEO ... has apologized for the outage, which the company has stated was due to a faulty piece of code." I suspect the one thing businesses won't be responding to this with is improvements in software engineering. Because that never seems to be an option. https://lnkd.in/evtGWGyi
What is CrowdStrike, and how did it cause a global Windows outage?
