WHYY's Kenny Cooper reports on CCEDC's recent federal award to "build operational capacity, provide training and education" for underserved businesses. This award by the U.S. Department of the Treasury brings us closer to Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) status. “To get to this point, CCEDC has needed to demonstrate a continued commitment to accessing and supporting minority- and women-owned businesses across the region, including those serving low-income areas, and we can’t wait to build on our success by delivering capital, training and assistance to businesses that have had trouble qualifying for such services,” CCEDC President and COO Michael Grigalonis. Recently, I was invited as a guest speaker to speak on 'Government Impact on Community Development' by my colleague - Hon. Ajao Mustapha Akanbi representing Apapa Constituency 2 at the Lagos State Youth Parliament. For this topic, I stated the significant things the Lagos State Government has done in this regard and how best the government can be complemented in making our community better than the present. Everyone has a role to play in nation-building as the government alone doesn't make up a nation. We, most especially the youth need to rise to the occasion in contributing our quota for the progress and development of our community because I believe in unison and collaboration, greater things arise. Attached is a document that contains my view on the subject matter.
