New book chapter is out. It is titled "South-South inter-epistemic dialogue and Africanisation of African universities: Language, knowledge and decolonial impulses".This chapter argues that "foregrounding South-South inter-epistemic dialogue is necessary to promote African perspectives’ visibility. The main point of departure is that African knowledges are not even prominent in their local contexts which problematises the efforts for decolonisation; this assumption warrants emphasising local visibility as a condition for demanding international recognisability of African knowledges".https://lnkd.in/gbeMCDCb

Friday October 25, 16.30-19.00 - Knowledge on/in African societies: re-opening the paths During this dialogue, Professor Felwine Sarr will present his lecture: Knowledge on/in African societies: re-opening the paths. During this presentation Professor Sarr will engage with epistemological questions such as What types of knowledge? How are they produced? For which purposes? These questions are fundamental to Africans in their struggle for political, cultural and economic emancipation. In order to imagine and construct different presents and futures, it is necessary to interrogate the enunciation of knowledge paradigms, because knowledge production sustains and reproduces a political, economic and social order. No livestream, but it will be recorded.

The experience of presenting a paper on Jan Smuts' formative childhood years at the Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Studies gave me great satisfaction - and indeed deepened my knowledge and understanding of this complex and creative person. By understanding his childhood physical and metaphysical experiences we can better understand his spirituality. By understanding that we can better grasp the deeper dimensions of holism as applied in perspective and practice. This then can inform our understanding of his view on individual and collective evolution of Personality (see that capital P as representing embodied 'soul') and point to a future trajectory of human progress and development. Then, with this understanding we can both recognise and get past the limited post-colonial fixated narrative to retrieve the gift he offered of human becoming as a navigational tool to the future. In the image, with Smuts looking, on Prof Bhaso Ndzendze (Politics and International Relations at University of Johannesburg) spoke on Smuts evolving foreign policy. Here he speaks on Smuts' cabinet policy at Smuts House, Irene with the launch of the book recording the papers of last year's conference on Smuts' legacy.
