South African Plastics Pact’s Post

Well Cape Town it's been magical, but after 10 days away from home it's time to leave. I've learnt and experienced loads whilst I have been here - was even playfully described as the 'Colonial poster-boy for wasters in SA'. Great to see the work that GreenCape, South African Plastics Pact and all its stakeholders are doing - safe to say I'm #inspired! Yesterday I had the pleasure in meeting and joining the African Reclaimers Organisation (ARO) in Khayelitsha to see how the informal sector works - I got my hands dirty, though I most likely just slowed them down more than I helped. Ahead of #INC5 in Busan later in the month it's key that the #JustTransition element of negotiations are not forgotten, without them doing what they do the global system doesn't work and they need more support. Naturally, it wouldn't have been a visit abroad without pictures of some #bins, so I hope my fellow wasters appreciate the ones at the top of Table Mountain. I hope I get the oppertunity to come back soon!
